Newt X Reader

Newt's POV

As I supervised everyone at the Glade, my eyes landed on (Y/N). She was the very first girl here and she's been staying here for two months. Her jobs are being a Slicer, Cook and a Runner. Today, she was a Cook and she's helping Frypan cook up some bloody stew for later.

My thoughts on (Y/N) aren't really good but they aren't really bad as well. It's just that she keeps to herself. She doesn't smile and I don't blame her for that but at least once in a while would be nice so that the boys won't feel scared by her. Other than that she's a rule-abiding Glader. She does her job diligently and as always, silently.

I really want to bloody talk to her but she looks so bloody scary. As I've said, she doesn't smile and she doesn't really have any friends here other than Frypan. I envy him so much since I really want to be able to talk to her about other things than her job. I know that she's a nice person but before you can be able to access that or be able to see that part of her, you really need to talk to her. To get her to open up to you.

I took a deep breath as I try again. I walk towards her but then I stop. Fear is consuming me once again and I walk away from her. I curse myself for being such a coward.

-

It was night and I was inside my sleeping bag but I'm still awake. I can't stop thinking about (Y/N). I really wanted to talk to her, to be her friend. She seemed very interesting and I wanted to learn more about her. My thoughts were disturbed when I heard soft sniffles. I began to wonder who else could be up at this time of night. I got out of my sleeping bag and followed the sound of the soft sniffles.

I reached the Dead Heads and I was shocked by what I saw. It was (Y/N) and she was crying. I didn't know what came over me, but I found myself walking towards her. My feet don't stop, like they have a mind of their own.

"(Y/N)?" I asked.

She looked up at me and she didn't say a thing. She immediately stood up and ran away from me. She was bloody fast and my limp was holding me back. I hated it. I didn't try to run after her, considering I'll see her in the morning. As I walked back to my sleeping bag, I thought about (Y/N) again.

Why was she crying?

I really wanted to comfort her and hug her. I've wanted to do that for a long time but now the urge is stronger. I couldn't really sleep and I told myself countless times to talk to her tomorrow. I told that to myself until I finally sleep.

-

When I woke up, the first thought I had was of (Y/N). I immediately stood up and went to the kitchen before anyone else could so that I'll get to eat first. When I got to the kitchen, I saw the (Y/N) was the only one there. She was wearing her running gear since she was a Runner today but what I've really noticed was that her eyes were red and puffy. It was obvious that she was crying. I took my food from Frypan and sat beside her. She didn't look at me and she just continued eating.

"(Y/N)?" I said. She looked at me with her eyebrows raised.

Good. I've gotten her attention.

"Why were you crying?" I asked.

"That's none of your business," she spat at me. She took her remaining food as she walked towards the Maze, waiting for the door to open, which will be after fifteen minutes.

Just enough time.

I caught up with her and I stood in front of her. She rolled her eyes at me and I felt a little hurt.

"(Y/N) please something is obviously bugging you. Tell me," I said.

"Why? What am I to you? Why should I even tell you? It's not like you could help."

"You're my friend. You can trust me."

It took me a long time to persuade her to tell me but it was worth it since she suddenly cried on my shoulder. I hugged her and comforted her. I couldn't help but let out a victory smile since that's what I've been trying to do for months.

"It's just stress. I know that everyone feels it but they don't break down like me. Sometimes I just lose all hope of us getting out of here."

"Shhh," I said. I hugged her again but tighter this time. I let her cry and I savored this wonderful moment in my head. "Don't worry (Y/N). Not everyone can deal with all the stress. You know my story right?" She nodded. "Well, at least you just cry."

"I guess," she said breaking into a laugh. "Newt?"

"Yeah?"

That was the first time she said my name. It sounded really cute and innocent, the way she said it.

"I have something to tell you."

"What is it?"

"I um. I oh this is so hard. I like you."

I was shocked. She liked me? I also liked her too. I always think about her and I always wish about being with her. I didn't notice that I was just staring at her.

"I'm sorry. It's just that. I like you too," I said.

She smiled and the both of us leaned in kissing each other with a lot of passion. We could've gone on for a long time but the Maze doors could  open anytime soon. She pulled away and smiled at each other.

"See you later?" She asked. I frowned a little, being a Runner really is stressful.

"See you later," I said as a statement, not as a question.

-

We did see each other again but it was after a long time. We saw each other again in the afterlife. Since that day we said goodbye, she got killed by a griever. I couldn't really live with myself but I forced myself to, just for Tommy. Then that day came when I found out I wasnt immune and I could turn into a Crank anytime. I forced Tommy to kill me and now I'm with (Y/N).

At least now we're together, wrapped in each others embrace. Now we can be together forever that not even the Flare or a griever can keep us apart.
