The next day came. This day was a mere preparation day, letting the remaining sixteen duelists in the Pro League tournament know who they face off against. After dragging a rather lazy Jaden out of bed, the three friends left their hotel and made haste to see their respective opponents, each hoping they would not have to duel each other so soon into the tournament.
Eventually, they reached the stadium and the other remaining duelists were stood waiting too. Chazz was up front, his arms crossed with an indifferent expression, as if the tournament being delayed by a day was a waste of his time. Aster Phoenix was over to the left, giving Jaden, Jesse and Syrus a courteous nod. The remaining eleven duelists were waiting too, looking either keen or nervous or as indifferent as Chazz, but this was mostly to hide their personal apprehensions.
Soon the commentator began the proceedings.
"To all Duel fans out there and here in the Domino stadium, let me present to you all the duel board for tomorrow's duels as well as the duels for the day after. Yes, fans! The second may have half the amount of duels now, but the suspense will remain as long, for we are splitting the qualifier into four duels in two days!"
The crowd roared in cheers that the tournament would not be rushed.
"Here is tomorrow's scoreboard!" declared the commentator.
On the board were Jaden and Syrus. Jaden would be duelling fourth against the enigmatic and strong Samuel Sork. Syrus would be duelling second against the muscular Tom Veins.
"And here's the board for the day after!" continued the commentator.
The board changed and Jesse, Chazz and Aster's faces became visible. Jesse would duel second, Aster third and Chazz fourth.
Nobody was duelling a personal friend or ally. This pleased Jaden considerably, but knew full well that sooner or later, he would have to duel his friends in the tournament, but hopefully by then, they will have snuffed out Nightshroud's agent and just duel for the fun of winning the Pro League.
This never really occurred to Jaden until now...it would be great to win the Pro League, to potentially be the next King of Games...just as he had vowed to Yugi Muto that he one day would be strong enough to out duel his idol.
So the friends went back to their hotel not long after in preparation of their upcoming duels that would decide whether or not they became one of the top eight for the quarter finals. As there were only eight duelists, and five of them were friends, Jaden realised that it was likely that at the very least, two of them would duel and inevitably be kicked out of the Championship. He didn't wish defeat on any of them, but apart from himself, Jesse and Syrus were the only ones in their friend zone who knew of Nightshroud having a crony in his group. This meant that he could always inform Chazz and Aster about the potential danger. But at present, if anyone was to leave the tournament, it would need to be one of them, and at least that way, one of them would be safe from duelling Nightshroud's Dark Ally.
But Jaden had to let whatever happened concerning himself, Syrus, Jesse, Chazz and Aster happen. He had to wait to see if they all got through to the quarter finals at all. He rested his head, with Winged Kuriboh coming out of his card and nuzzling his friend in his sleep.
The next morning, Jaden and his friends made their way to the stadium. In roughly less than an hour, Syrus would be duelling against Tom Veins.
"Good luck, Sy." smiled Jaden as Syrus made his way to the duelling arena.
Suddenly, Jaden felt a pang of dread and Yubel spoke from within his head.
"Danger is here, Jaden. Not just the crony! Someone is here!"
