At Duel Academy, the Darkness-infested students had spread their disease everywhere. Nightshroud had now gained full control over all of the students. The only ones unaffected were a handful. Alexis was on the run in the main building, dodging any students who may spot her, Hassleberry was in his dinosaur form, barricading himself inside the Ra Yellow Dorm, Jasmine and Mindy were struggling to get inside the main building to rescue Alexis, Yusake and Honest had fled and Professor Sartyr and Miss Fontaine were barricading the medical wing, shielding Harrington and Pierre.
Alexis searched every room she could reach for Atticus, whom she got separated from and with each empty room, she grew more and more inclined to fear the worse.
"Where are you, Atticus? And for that matter, where are you, Jaden?" she murmured as she sheltered in one of the classrooms.
Jaden, Syrus and Chazz were still on their way to the Academy as night fell, and the former also had Alexis on his thoughts. It was she that he wanted to rescue most of all, and he spent the duration of the journey silently stressing for her safety. Yubel was beyond contempt for Jaden's evident feelings for the teacher, but she also sensed the Supreme King's undying love for her and hoped for the best in the end.
Then she sensed it.
"Jaden," she said grimly, "I can sense Nightshroud at Duel Academy ahead. It's as strong as it's ever been so far...his hold over the school is strong indeed!"
"Then we will be stronger, Yubel," replied Jaden. "We have to be!"
Winged Kuriboh and Ruby squeaked in agreement as the boat sailed closer and closer to the darkened island.
Jasmine and Mindy had struggled to get inside the Academy, but knew it was too difficult to enter through the main entrance due to the amount of students searching for victims on the ground floor.
"Wait, our monsters could help us!" said Jasmine.
"How?" asked Mindy.
"They're flesh and blood nowadays, we can use flying monsters to get up to the roof and enter the Academy from above!"
Mindy agreed and they drew a flying monster each from their decks.
"Go, Winged Mermaid!" said Jasmine, wrapping her arms around the half-winged woman, half-fish monster.
"Go, Shining Angel!" added Mindy, wrapping her arms around the Angel's waist.
The two monsters rose into the air and deposited the two women onto the roof, before vanishing back into their cards.
"We're in!" said Jasmine, as she and Mindy rushed to the top floor from above.
"But is anyone else in here still safe?" asked Mindy nervously.
"I don't know, but we can't give up on Alexis or...Atticus at least."
Mindy agreed and they looked around frantically, when they saw Alexis dart out of one of the classrooms.
"ALEXIS!" called Jasmine.
Alexis looked elated. She wasn't alone anymore, and the three best friends shared a happy embrace.
"I thought you'd all been..."
"No, we're fine, but we haven't seen anyone else but those students turned into Darkness zombies!" replied Mindy.
"Then I guess it's just us three left standing," said Alexis, trying to sound as tough as she acted.
"Until Jaden and the others come, that is," said Jasmine.
