Jaden looked haunted and inconsolable.

Yubel was gone. Sacrificed to free his other friends.

But...how could he protect them without the other half of his merged soul? How could he fend off the Darkness without her protection?

Syrus rushed over to him, as did the first released card victim to wake: Jesse.

"Jaden..." murmured Syrus.

"Jay?" said Jesse.

Jaden looked up to see one of his best friends, safe and well.

"You're back," he whispered.

"Yeah, thanks to Yubel. Who'd have thought it, considering what happened the last time she and I encountered one another, huh?"

Jesse was trying to sound humorous, but Jaden only weakly smiled, batting a stray tear or two from his eyelids.

"She got us back. Defeat Nightshroud and we'll get her back, Jaden."

"As well as Zane, Banner and the others," added Syrus optimistically.

Jaden knew they were right. They had to be strong if they were to save those still lost to the World of Darkness.

"Yubel also freed all those who were possessed by Chazz's Nightshroud virus," added Syrus, "we now have the greater number in this war. We need to gather everyone in the main duelling arena room, and work out our next move, before Nightshroud makes his."

"Agreed," said Jesse.

"Let's wake Sheppard and the others, find Hassleberry and the others and let's do it," said Jaden determinedly.

He only wished he felt as strong as he sounded. Without Yubel sharing his body and soul, he felt empty...he didn't even feel like he did before he merged with her all those years ago. He was simply not whole...

Meanwhile, in a helicopter out to sea, Aster Phoenix was sat next to Sarina, the latter looking deeply distressed. Behind them was Emeralda, Aster's coach.

Aster couldn't blame her, considering what she told him just after he lost to Chazz in the Pro League Quarter Final.

"What happened?"

"Sartorius and I were at home, eating dinner, when suddenly a dark shadow towered over our home and it enwrapped us, blinded me...when it faded, Sartorius was no longer in the house with me. I searched everywhere. I appealed to the police, to old friends...and through their sources, I realized that Nightshroud had returned and that's why Jaden Yuki is in this tournament after being out of the picture for five years...and recently, I've gathered that Sartorius was last seen embarking on an old boat...with Superintendent Kagemaru. And I just saw a Duel Spirit carrying Syrus Truesdale back from the sea. I think my brother is under Nightshroud's control. I need your help to get my brother back. After all, you are his best friend!"

Aster agreed. And now they were searching the seas for the lonesome boat where Sartorius currently was.

"We'll find him...and we'll get him back," said Aster, holding his friend's hand.

Sarina squeezed it softly in response. Both of their faces blushed a little when suddenly the pilot spoke.

"Vessel ahead!"
