A/N So today wound up being a weird day so I just started writing and got this. I found it kinda cute. It's really short, but fun. Enjoy<3
"Sherlock, there is something you need to see."
"John, I am in the middle of something. Is it really important?"
"Yes, he's back." Sherlock felt his stomach tighten at those words. Ever since Moriarty's face was broadcast across London, he and John had been working non-stop trying to figure out who sent out the video. He scrambled over to where John was standing and grabbed his phone. There was an email link that was titled MISSME? His fingers hesitated over the link for a moment before he clicked on it. As soon as he opened it, the small screen was filled with what looked like a poorly shot music video.
Never gonna give you up!
Never gonna let you down!
Sherlock nearly dropped the phone when the loud song played through the speakers.
Never gonna run around and desert you!
John was laughing louder than Sherlock had ever heard him laugh before. He was clutching at his sides and whimpering with the force of his own laugh.
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
"John, what the hell is this?"
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
"John," his friend was still laughing, propping himself up against the nearest wall and wiping tears from the corners of his eyes. Sherlock took stock of the happy man before him. This was the first time in a long while he had seen John this happy. Ever since the whole fiasco with Magnussen and Mary John had been rather stressed and it was nice to see him laugh again, even if he was confused as to what was so funny. When Mary had asked for a divorce and John had moved back in, Sherlock was sure that nothing would ever feel the same. "John, what is happening?"
"I-I'm sorry Sherlock, I couldn't resist." John's voice was higher than normal and he sounded breathless. Sherlock had never heard anything more beautiful. "You just got Rick-Rolled!" The blogger fell into another fit of giggles, this time dragging Sherlock along with him. They stood together, laughing over the ridiculousness of the prank for what felt like hours.
When they finally settled down, Sherlock took note of how the distance between them had closed and felt his throat tighten. John looked up at him, eyes still glinting with joy. They grinned at each other for a few seconds before John moved to close the gap, pulling Sherlock in for a tight hug. The detective froze for a moment before sinking into the embrace.
"I'm sorry Sherlock, I know things haven't been too good since Mary, I just wanted to see you laugh." The doctor mumbled against Sherlock's chest.
"John, you don't have to blast an obnoxious song at me to make me laugh. Just seeing your smile brightens my day considerably." The words left his mouth before he could even try to stop them. John pulled back slightly and looked into his eyes, a small smirk tugging at his lips. He stood on his toes and pressed his lips to Sherlock's in the softest of kisses. Sherlock felt fire scorching through his veins and his breathing hitched.
"I know." The shorter man winked and walked away, leaving a very flustered genus standing in the middle of the living room.
Life suddenly seemed a little brighter to the detective.
