Violet's POV
.
.
After uselessly searching for one and a quarter hour, we ended up at McDonald's.
"I have a bad feeling about this, Brad," I said, after we were seated comfortably with our food, "I keep thinking that she would do it."
He took a sip of his coke, "You did all you can, and now if she did that, it wouldn't be your fault."
"That doesn't exactly give comfort, you know," I swallowed, "Who wants two ghosts near them in two days, especially when one hates you."
He only laughed.
And did you guessed what was my reaction?
Yup, I stared mesmerized, it was a beautiful noise.
"You just made a serious situation funny," he chuckled, "And I never knew that you were obsessed with ghosts."
"Whatever," I rolled me eyes, but I was actually smiling.
"So?" he asked in an attempt to keep the conversation going.
I giggled, "So, how is Isabella? I haven't seen her in ages."
"She has been asking for you, but I thought that instead of bringing her to you, we can take you there. You know, it'd be safer for her and your parents. I don't want to enlargen the already huge bullseye set on your house," at the end of his sentence, he took a big bite of his cheeseburger.
I frowned slightly, "You're actually right. That way it'd look like I'm visiting you and no one will link Isabella to it."
"I'm always right, babe, aren't I?" he smirked, looking me in the eye as if challenging me.
His endearment sent a shiver down my spine, but I laughed, rolling my eyes, "Yeah, and Eminem is a unicorn."
"You sarcastic little," he barked out a laugh. "Eminem is amazing, by the way."
A huge grin threatened to split my face into two.
"Oh yeah? Your favorite song by him?" I tilted my chin defiantly at him.
He looked like I caught him off guard with my question, but he was quick to recover and grumble an answer, "Lose Yourself."
"Why do you say that like it leaves a bad taste in your mouth? It's a wonderful song," I frowned.
He scratched the back of his neck, "Well, I thought you'd make fun of it."
I giggled and raised an eyebrow, "Then you shouldn't have told me."
"You asked."
My heart just went Awwww.
"I sure did," I continued eating, "But I'll give you a chance to get even. Have a question?"
"Hmmm, let me think," he sipped on his drink while thinking. His eyes got slightly distant.
I stayed quiet and finished my cheeseburger in silence.
He spoke some minutes later, "Okay. What was your life like back where you moved from?"
An involuntary smile spread on my face, despite all the horrible memories I have of my previous home, "You see it was Cali, so obviously the best thing was the easily approachable beaches. I loved to swim or just walk by the shore. The noise of crashing waves is always so calming, especially when the world around you is cruel. I've always preferred the comfort of nature over people. My life was not as interesting as it is now, Brad. Can't say I miss it."
