Violet's POV
.
.
The teacher pointed at me, "You will be with Mr. Issac Jones."
I looked around to see who he was and saw a boy with black hair and dark eyes coming towards my desk. I recognized him as one of the football players of school's team. I sighed internally, hope he is not an arrogant jock."Hi, I'm Issac. And you are?" he said confidently.
"Hi, I'm Violet," I answered.
"Nice to meet you, Violet," he said taking a seat beside me.
"Yeah, nice to meet you too," I said quietly.
The teacher, Mrs. Lanes, had finished pairing the students and said, "Okay, students! You have two weeks for this assignment. You all have to select a worldwide problem, analyze its causes and suggest a solution for it. You will have to submit at least twenty pages, whether in handwriting or as printed pages. Do cooperate with each other because this assignment carries ten marks. Am I understood?"
"Yes, Ma'am".
"You are now allowed to discuss the assignment with your assigned partners," she said sitting down on her desk.
People started talking but I didn't get much time to look here and there as Issac started talking to me, "So, what do you think?"
"I think maybe hunger or unemployment," I answered uncertainly.
"Unemployment it is then!" he exclaimed. He continued after a brief pause, "Shall we meet at the Book Café after school to do the assignment?"
"Yeah, that'd be great," I agreed.
"OK. We'll then__" he was cut off by the bell and looked up at the clock.
I started collecting my belongings, "I'll see you after school then."
He nodded and left. I stood up as well and moved towards the door. I saw Kate standing outside and started walking towards her. She was smiling and waving but suddenly her eyes went wide as she looked behind me. Before I could turn around to look behind me, I was pushed from the behind and lost my balance, thus facepalming the floor. I murmured, "Not this again."
I saw Brad walk past me arrogantly without even glancing my way. I stood up again and brushed off clothes. I went to Kate and smiled at her, "Shall we go?"
She frowned, "Yeah. We have Communication Skills next."
"Where is Michael?" I asked.
"Oh, he has a different class," she replied.
"OK," I nodded.
We got to the classroom in the nick of the time and took our seats. Mr. Kyle entered and started the class right away. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even notice what he was teaching. I was brought out of my thoughts by the bell. Kate and I walked together to the parking lot. Michael was waiting for her near his car, "Hello, ladies!" He grabbed Kate by the waist and gave her a quick kiss.
I looked away and around the parking lot. The parking lot was quite crowded. Thankfully Brad wasn't here yet.
"Hey, Violet, do you want a ride? I can drop you off before I go home," Michael offered.
"No, it's okay. I'm meeting Issac for the assignment of IR," I refused politely."Okay then. Bye!" Michael said.
Kate said with a wink, "Text me later about how your date went.""This ain't a date," I said annoyed at her assumption. "Anyways, see you tomorrow!"
"Whatever you say. Bye!"
Smiling that I finally got a friend, I started walking to the Book Café. It wasn't that far, in fact it was only two blocks from the school. I entered. This was a beautiful place with warm brown painted walls and white decorations. It is basically a café but there is a section where they had put shelves filled with dozens of books and couches for costumers to sit on while reading. I had been here once with by mom.
I looked around for Issac and found him sitting at a table by the window. I went there and said nervously, "Hello."
He looked up, "Oh, hey Violet! Have a seat please so that we can start working."
I sat down in the seat in front of him, "Thanks."
I took out my books and looked through them for the topic, unemployment. I found it but the info wasn't enough so I said, "Guess we'll have to look through the internet or library."
He nodded, "Yeah."
Just then the waitress approached us, "May I take your order now?"
Issac said, "Yes. I'll have a cappuccino with one sugar and one cream."
"Um, I'll take the same but add one more sugar. Thanks," I said.
The waitress nodded, "Coming right away."
We shared our thoughts and took notes. I didn't realized that two hours have gone until my phone rang. It was my mom, probably calling to know where I am because like the idiot I am, I had forgotten to text her earlier. I answered the call, "Hey, mom."
"Violet! Where are you? Why are you not home yet?" came her worried voice through the phone.
"Mom, I'm at the Book Café with a class fellow to work on a assignment. Sorry I forgot to text you earlier," I said sheepishly.
"Okay. When will you be home?"
"I'm just finishing up. I'll be home in fifteen minutes."
"Okay, honey. Love you."
"Love you too, mom!" I hung up.
I looked up to see Issac looking at me, "I'll have to go now. My mom is waiting for me. I hope you don't mind."
"Not at all. We'll work on it tomorrow," he said.
"Yeah," I said, nodding. We parted ways after exchanging phone numbers. This was how my second day at school went.
