Violet's POV
.
.
I woke up to the sound of my alarm. For the first time in forever, I felt well-rested and relaxed. I stretched my body and threw away the covers from my body. I swung my legs out of the bed and stood up. I went straight to the bathroom to freshen up and take a shower. After brushing my teeth and drying myself up, I wrapped the towel around my body and went to my walk-in closet. I decided to wear a blue floral top and a plaited skirt that reached my knees, pairing it with black tights and sandals. I put my hair in a high ponytail and put on some lipgloss. Yeah, I wasn't feeling like dressing up to be a nerd today which I actually wasn't, by the way.
I then unplugged my iPhone from the charger and picked up my bag. I padded to kitchen and greeted cheerfully, "Good morning!"
Dad chuckled at my cheerfulness, "Morning! Someone is happy today."
Mom said with a mischievous smile, "Yeah, you are usually grumpy in the mornings. Have you met someone?"
"Mom," I groaned, "I don't have to be seeing someone to be happy. So you two can stop teasing me about my love life"
Dad snorted with laughter, "Yeah, your nonexistent love life."
"Ugh! I hate it when you gang up on me," I complained, while I was actually smiling.
"Love you too, baby girl!" Dad said standing up. He continued after a moment, "Now I have to go, otherwise I'd be late. You coming, Violet?"
"No, dad. Kate is picking me up today," I told him, sipping on my coffee.
"OK. Text me if you want me to pick you up," He said.
After I heard the sound of his car leaving, I asked, "Mom, what's wrong?"
"Honey, you shouldn't be walking to school or hitching rides like this. This is a new place for you. I'm just worried about you, that's why I called you yesterday," she said, her tone slightly worried.
I smiled, her words warming my insides, "Don't worry, mom. I'll text you my whereabouts. And Kate is a nice girl."
"I know. But I still worry about you. You'll always be my baby girl even after you get yourself a boyfriend," she grinned.
I was glad that she was back to her usual self, smiling. I knew that she is worried because anything could happen in a big city like New York. I huffed mockingly, "Not that topic, mom. So when are we going shopping?"
"How about this Friday?" she suggested.
"Sounds great!"
I was placing my cup in the sink when I heard car horns outside my home. That must be Kate. I said bye to mom and picked up my bag. I ran outside and shut the door after me. There was a white car parked right in front of the gates and I could see Kate in the front passenger seat waving her hand to me. I laughed and jogged to the car. I opened the door of the backseat and sat down, "Hello, Kate. Hi, Michael."
"Hello to you too!" Kate replied.
Michael put the car in gear again and started driving, "So, how are you today?"
"I'm fine. Actually in a good mood today."
Kate wiggled her eyebrows, "Why, why?"
"It's not what you're thinking. I just feel good," I said thoughtfully, "Hey, Kate! Mom and I going on shopping this Friday. Wanna join us?" I asked her after a pause.
"Won't I be intruding?" she said a bit worried.
"Not at all. Mom has to buy some decorations for the house and I need some new clothes. Besides, I'm happy that I finally have friends that I can hang out with. So why not!" I reassured her, smiling.
She nodded excitedly, "Sure, I'd love to."
I giggled at her excitement. It wasn't that I hated shopping because I actually liked shopping with my mom. It was just that I did not like to try dress after dress. You see, we were a happy family and we were close to each other. Mom had always been more like a best friend to me; I share everything with her. I love her to pieces.
I was so lost in my thoughts about my family that I didn't realized that Michael had already parked in the school parking lot. Kate's voice brought me back, "Let's go, Violet! I bet you won't want to be late for Mr. Maxwell's class."
I rolled my eyes, "Of course, his math lessons are the only missing pieces in my life."
She laughed, "You, sarcastic bitch! I never thought that the sweet Violet could be mean like that."
"I don't open up to people this easily but I have somehow came to trust you. My sarcastic side only surfaces when I'm with my family or when someone pisses me off," I defended.
"Glad to hear that you trust me." She then turned to look at Michael, "I'll see you at lunch, okay?"
"Alright, babe! I love you," Michael said and even I can hear the sincerity in his voice.
"I love you too, baby!" she retaliated.
I walked to our class with Kate on my side. Out of nowhere, Melissa appeared in front of us with her minions. I felt Kate tense beside me. I tried to side step her but she blocked my way. I looked straight in eyes unflinchingly and said confidently, even though I was nervous inside, "Move aside, Melissa."
She raised a perfect eyebrow at me, "Oh, Beth! Look who is here, the boyfriend stealing whore."
The girl spoken to, Beth, giggled. She had dirty blonde hair, cut in a bob and a nice figure, with blue eyes and a fake tan.
I was fuming. She was calling me names just because her boyfriend was bullying me. I didn't asked him to bully me. My good mode from the morning had faded because of her. I put on my bitchy attitude, "Says who? The girl who's opinion doesn't even matter to me. Pathetic if you ask me."
She glared at me, "For your information, I'm the most desired girl in this school! How dare you say tha__"
I cut her off, "Maybe because they know that you are a slut."
She looked ready to punch me but I stood up to her calmly. If she started a fight, she would be responsible for the consequences, not me. Kate squeezed my hand in warning to not argue with her, but I'm burning inside with anger due to her judging me. Melissa spoke again, "You are just another girl wanting what is mine. But you do not have the slightest chance because you are ugly as fuck."
"I may be ugly. But you know what? I can stop being ugly with surgery but you, on the other hand, will be stupid for eternity," nodding, I pretended to agreed with her.
I heard stifled laughs around me. I looked around to find out that I had an audience. I smiled slightly and looked at her again. She was barely controlling herself from lashing out on me.
Then my smile suddenly disappeared and I froze because I heard the unmistakable voice of none other than Brad himself, "Well, if this ain't that new girl who needs a better lesson on how to keep her fucking mouth shut."
