Violet's POV

Seeing Brad lying on the hospital bed with tons of bandages all over him and lots of machines connected to his body via wires, almost broke me, but I didn't let my tears fall. According to what mom told me, the bullet hadn't hit any major organ or blood vessel. Him being in a coma was because of the immense blood loss. He should be waking up now. I mean after blood transfer, he should be okay. Right?

And yet he wasn't.

He was in a coma for almost a day now.

His doctor seemed to think that if he didn't wake up in the next two days, then the immediate timeline would be lost. Then no one would be able to say when he'd wake up. A day, a week, a month, a year.

I slowly walked to his bed and carefully took his right hand in mine, "Hello, Brad. . . I don't know what to say. . . Thank you for, you know, saving me. . . But I'm so mad at you for putting yourself at such a risk. You could've died, Brad. . . Please wake up. . . For Isabella, for your dad, for m-me. . . Please o-open your eyes, Brad."

My voice cracked and the tears finally slipped out. There was no one in the room other than me and him, and I just sat there crying my eyes out for only God knows how long.

Finally there was a knock on the door and mom entered without waiting for my answer. I hurriedly swapped my fingers under my eyes, but I was sure that she knew I had been crying.

I felt overwhelming relief when she didn't comment on my sobbing. She just told me that I needed to go back to my room to rest.

"I'll be back soon, Brad. I love you. P-please wake up," I whispered to him and reluctantly released his hand. Dropping a gentle kiss on his forehead, I caressed his cheek lightly, the stubble tickling my fingers.

The days that followed were quite depressing to me. Yes, I was recovering faster than the doctors predicted and my bruises were already disappearing. But Brad did not wake up. It's already been ten days since he slipped into coma.

I was discharged after spending only three days in the hospital. And I wasted another week staying at home because mom didn't let me go to school or anywhere else for that matter. She didn't want me out of her sight. Besides the doctor had told me to rest as my ribs were bruised very badly.

Kate and Michael both visited me in the hospital and it was very gratifying to see their concern. I was pretty lucky to have them as my friends. But they were also mad at me for putting myself in danger and not telling them anything. I had to apologise for distancing myself from them because I hadn't wanted them to get sucked into this mess. After a while, Kate informed me that I was very stupid for doing this, and then she hugged me, being very careful of my injuries. And then we spent an hour catching up.

They kept visiting me daily, first at the hospital and then at my home. They kept me up to date about everything happening in school. Kate even spent a few nights with me at my house. I knew that she was trying to keep me distracted from the whole Brad being in a coma situation, but even if it was fun to spend time with her, my heart would always remind me of Brad. I really miss him.

But even with everything going on, I never missed even a single day. I visited Brad every day and begged him to come back. I don't know if he could even hear me, but it gave me a sense of calm to talk to him. At least, he was there, right in front of my eyes. I don't know why he was still in a coma. According to the doctors, there was no complications from the beatings and the bullet, other than the blood loss. And since he was given blood transfers, he should wake up. Right? Yes, he should.
