Violet's POV
.
.
For the next one and a half hour, we worked in perfect harmony, with him cooking whatever he was making and me baking cupcakes. I had to ask him where the things were from time to time, but it wasn't awkward. We talked about anything and everything, while we worked. There was no tension between us, which was probably supposed to be there after all he told me about his mother. But surprisingly, there was peace, and he seemed oddly relaxed.
Once we were done with cupcakes in the oven and lasagna in the fridge, we cleaned up and then sat down to watch a movie. The movie was full of loopholes and by the end of it, we were laughing at the mistakes we had pointed out.
"So, Brad? We just ruined a movie. What are your thoughts about it?" I said the last sentence in a news reporter voice.
He laughed, "It was fun, I'll admit. But you should be glad we were at home. At the theatre, we'd have been kicked out."
"True," I grinned.
The silence that followed was broken by the doorbell moments later. It was Isabella and you could only imagine how much excited she was to see me there. It turned out that Brad hadn't told her about today's plans.
What followed was an amazing day filled with watching movies, painting, dancing (Isabella takes dance classes, remember), singing, eating pizza and loads of junk food, and so much more. I didn't even have time to think about Melissa.
And Brad also played his guitar for a song that Isabella sung. He was amazing, and Isabella's voice was so soothing. I almost melted when Brad joined her for a few lines. He wasn't as good as Isabella, nor did he had terrible voice. His singing was just alright, but hearing him sing made me warm all over. I love him!
Isabella was so much fun to hang out with. Whatever we did, turned into a fun activity. She's a child after all.
It wasn't until we sat down for dinner that I remembered someone was missing. I turned to look at Brad who was serving some pasta to Isabella, "Hey, Brad? Wouldn't Derek join us?"
He gave a blank look, "It's a Monday, Violet. He won't be home till midnight."
"Oh," my mouth opened slightly.
"Yes." He nodded and gestured to the table, "Don't stop on my account, my lady."
The horrible accent on the 'my lady' made me burst out laughing, "That was . . . weirdly weird."
It was now his turn to laugh, "And that was very specific."
I grinned and carefully placed some pasta on my plate, "Maybe."
Before I could even taste it, Isabella's excited voice filled the dining room, "I love it, Brad. This is awesome. You're the best brother I've ever had."
I chuckled, "He's your only brother, Isabella."
She frowned cutely up at me, "That's why I said that."
Unsure of how to answer that, I glanced at Brad who just shook his head, "Oh, I'm used to such exclamations. Makes me wonder how many secret brothers you have, Isabella."
"One?" Her answer came out more like a question and I giggled.
"If only you say so," he gave her a wide smile and started eating.
I followed suit and I have to admit, whatever he said its name was, it is freaking amazing.
"Shoot! This is heavenly!" the words stumbled out of my mouth without my permission, but I wasn't even ashamed of them. They were as true as I could get near the truth.
