Chapter-39 Don't move.

"How are you feeling now, sweetheart? I hope you took that tonic I made you on time?" Raven's soothing voice came fleeting through the backdoor and almost made me jump in my spot in surprise before I released a breath of air and turned around to take a look at her with a faint smile nonetheless.

"I'm feeling way better now. And yes I did take the medicine on time. Thanks," I vocalized absentmindedly before returning back to the book placed in my lap all the while pulling the comforter more tightly around myself. Not that it was cold outside or anything, it was rather warm but I couldn't help the way shivers ran through my body every now and then.

Ava and Raven had returned about two hours ago and Raven had found me sitting idly on the recliner near the fireplace, just staring out the gigantic window that had been left open to allow fresh morning air to seep into the living room.

"Is everything alright?" She'd asked me but I shrugged it off saying that I was merely thinking about everything that has been going on and that it was nothing serious.

Though, I highly doubt she bought my statement. Instead, she had given me this book that looked about a 100 years old, although it adorned a beautiful spine as well as a breath-taking front cover which would've stood out even more if it were not so old and a little tattered on the edges. However, just like every other book or novel, the kind of scent that it gave off-it soothed me in ways.

Raven wanted me to read the title-less book which consisted of a detailed account on The Violetta Clan, its history, its attributes, beliefs and ideas, how they developed and survived over the years but were eventually wiped off in an unanticipated attack. However interesting and intriguing every phrase and word appeared to me as I went over them, turning pages after pages what spiked my curiosity instantly was the paragraph about the gist I had inherited.

Wait, it wasn't just a paragraph, rather a total of about 10 pages with a specific mention of each one of the elements along with some ways one could utilize them. I'd come across a myriad of words that were foreign to me and I'd conjured up that they probably ancient and originated from a completely unknown language.

I had also managed to stumble upon a couple of mantras or I don't know may be they were spells of some sort meant for witches to use perhaps? But what I did know that they would surely prove useful in my path to discover how to actually control the element fire, that is, without hurting anyone. I sighed deeply. I had to try them out at least because I didn't know for how long I would be able to depend on others to pave way for me. I would have to do this on my own someday and as a matter of fact I knew I wouldn't always have Warren or his family or even the witch sisters with me right by my side to help me out. They were just a phase of my life, a temporary phase, and in the blink of an eye, they would be gone.

The sooner I learn to live and be by myself the better.

"Are you finding that book interesting?" She asked and I heard her shuffling closer to me, causing me to stiffen immediately.

"Very," I kept it short and simple.

"I'm glad," she said, her tone hesitant around the edges and I could just pray that she hadn't picked up on anything yet, though I was aware of how perceptive she was.

Before she could utter another word, I piped in, "Raven, if it's okay can I please go out for a walk? I need some fresh air,"

Our eyes met and hers definitely looked reluctant to grant me with the permission. My heart thudded inside my chest as I waited for her to answer, simultaneously closing the book but keeping it tucked under my arm with an intention to take it with me.
