Of course, just simply 'wanting' to talk to someone couldn't come as easily as air from the sky. I looked for opportunities, but with no limit to my opportunities, I found that I didn't feel as urgent as I had previously. But the world didn't wait for me to find the right moment to talk to him, so school started, and with it many assignments followed. Hey, maybe I was lazy... maybe I was super nervous to speak to someone who I hadn't really spoken to in a few months.

Most classes ran exactly the same; exceptions only being that the teachers were always on edge, and the new punishing system... Introduced on the very first day of school; all trouble makers, cheaters, class clowns, anyone that rose problems in class had to be reported to the Carrow twins for detention. It was made very clear that these detentions weren't going to be filing papers for a teacher, or sitting at a desk doing nothing. No, the Carrows had more in mind for them.

I walked into my first class with a Carrow; I was mainly happy that I only had one class with them. I chose not to take Muggle Studies, instead, I took the usual Study of Ancient Runes and Arithmancy. I wanted to desperately cling to Lacey as I walked further into class, but sadly she had the class at a different time. I however, saw Piper and decided to sit next to her, even though I wasn't really happy with her.

"Hi," I said and slid next to her, "Aspect doesn't have this class either does she?" I asked and she slowly took her hand off chin.

"No, I'm pretty sure she has it when Lacey does," she stated monotonously. It was apparent that what we had said about the new staff had gotten to her; she wasn't her bubbly self. I didn't have the opportunity to respond however because Amycus stepped to the front of the class. I glanced at him, and the glance turned into a stare; he was smiling evilly as if we were all chickens he was going to slaughter.

"Welcome to the Dark Arts. I'm glad no one was late," he stated happily; it was clear he was satisfied with his first words. Immediately a hand shot up and Amycus lifted his eyebrows in its direction, "Wondering why it's just 'Dark Arts'? Instead of the usual Defense of the Dark Arts?" Amycus asked annoyed. The boy with his hand slowly lowered it and nodded, "It's because you don't need the defense of the dark arts any more... you need to know how to actually do it..." he said rolling his eyes, "now I need to make sure all of you have your books; if you don't, you might be able to tell everyone what detentions is like, because you'll be the first to know," he continued and began walking down the middle of the isle. I hesitantly took my book from my rucksack and set it on the desk. I immediately looked to Piper to make sure ours matched, and was relieved; I had bought the right one. After the shuffling had stopped, Amycus checked every student to make sure that they had brought the correct book. He smiled smugly once he was done, and then he began to teach the class.

By almost all means he wasn't a terrible teacher; he made us understand the things we were told we were supposed to learn, but I can bet that many people would question his ethics. He told us that forbidden curses were no longer forbidden in his class. In fact, the cruciatus curse was something that would become more common during our time there, and towards the end of the year we were to learn how to use it. He spoke as if he was excited to be corrupting our minds with dark magic; it was truly interesting, but I could already tell that nothing we were to learn would be something that would have been approved by any regular regulations.

He wasn't nice about the spells either, he called out students if they messed up or weren't getting it right away. He would then immediately demand what their blood type was; as if he didn't know it already. He was harsher towards those that had 'dirty blood'. He picked favorites easily; obliviously preferring those pure of blood, which was conveniently most of the Slytherins in the class. I guess the best part of the first class was the fact that no one got a detention, though, I was sure he wanted to give it to one particular student. He really took a disliking to some female Hufflepuff; I could already tell her experience in his class was not going to be a pleasant one. At the end of the hour I cursed the school for not letting students pick only the core classes they wanted to take, but I mean every student was obligated to educate themselves on most topics. For fear that an uneducated wizard might become a bad one, and yet some of the most educated ones still turned out that way....
