PROLOGUE

BRIDE FOR HIRE

"I-I changed my mind. Knowing na ikaw pala ang pakakasalan ko. Humanap ka na lang ng iba." Taas noo niyang saad. She never dreamt of marrying someone like him! Even if it is just a set-up, hindi niya lubos maisip na pakisamahan ang kagaya nito.

"Do you think I want to marry you, too? I'm doing this for a bloody reason. Just accept my damn offer and sign the damn contract!" He said, clenching his jaw. He's gotten more serious than before, with that sharp gaze she would never, ever forget. It is somehow engraved into her mind. It is very intense, as if it could pierce someone's soul.

Emilia rolled her eyes on him as she inhaled deeply. She's trying to keep her cool, to not be intimidated this time. She has every willpower to do so. He is starting to lose it, and she knows if she does the same, it will all turn out ugly.

Just like the first time.

Ang kapal! She thought as she grit her teeth in annoyance. Wala na siyang enerhiya makipagsagutan dito. She learned to never fight fire with fire.

Emilia walked again towards the door. Gusto niya na lang makaalis sa lugar na ito. She cannot handle any more tension.

"Five hundred fifty thousand pesos in cash and fifty thousand monthly." Emilia stopped on her tracks upon hearing his statement.

Very tempting for her. Sobrang laki nito kung iisipin. But she still thinks it's not worth it for marrying this man. Itong lalaki na dahilan kung bakit siya nandito ngayon. He's the most high-maintenance person she ever met. She can only handle so much.

Pinilit niyang maging matatag. Mas gusto niya pa maghanap na lang ng ibang trabaho. Hindi kaya ng pride niya isipin na ang magsasalba sa kaniya sa hirap na pinagdadaanan ay ang lalaking isa sa naging dahilan kung bakit niya naranasan iyon.

Kinuyom niya ang kamao, fighting the urge to accept the offer.

Napaisip siya kung bakit nga ba desperado itong maghanap ng mapapangasawa. In all honesty, this man is drop dead gorgeous, not to mention that he's also loaded with money. Kahit sino ay luluhod para mapakasalan ito. But she just can't. Ngayon pa lang ay hindi niya matantiya ang ugali nito. Hindi naman din siya mapupunta sa posisyong ito kung hindi rin dahil sa lalaki.

Mana pa siguro kung iba lang ang sitwasyon. Kung naging maayos lang sana ang una nilang pagkikita.

She continued walking nang magsalita muli ito. "My, my, Ms. Cortes. I see that you are very hard to please," Narinig niya ang paggulong ng swivel chair nito. "One million pesos in cash, eighty thousand per month, an exclusive condominium unit, and a black card." She stopped walking at hinarap ito. Bakas ang gulat sa kaniyang mukha.

He can't be serious! That's too much. Alam naman niyang mayaman ito at barya lang sa kaniya ang halagang nabanggit, ngunit malaking palaisipan kung bakit kailangan niya itong gawin para lamang maikasal sa isang estrangherong kagaya niya.

"I'm serious." Humalukipkip ito habang nakatingin sa kaniya, tila nabasa nito ang kaniyang isip. This man is insane! Nalula siya sa pag-isip sa napakalaking halagang alok nito. Her thoughts are all over the place, ngunit nangingibabaw sa kaniya ang ideya na kayang-kaya lutasan ng alok na ito ang lahat ng kaniyang problema.

"Take it, or leave it? Come on, we're running out of damn time." One million?! Emilia raised her eyebrows in amusement. Hindi na ito nag-isip pa at lumapit sa lalaki.

Who is she to turn a million down?

"Where's the contract?" He smirked, seemingly satisfied with her answer.

And that job, changed her life.
