Trust me, I didn't imagine myself doing this on Power Rangers, but I am now actually honored to do so.
Hello everyone, welcome back. This review, will come as a shocker to you, and believe me, when I saw this movie, I was shocked as well.
Ladies and gentlemen, this movie is a 5/5 - and it is my new favorite movie, beating Captain America: Civil War.
That's not to say "Civil War" wasn't any good, no that movie was an epic! The reason I liked Power Rangers just a tad bit more, was because of how well they actually pulled it off.
For years, Power Rangers has been known to try and make their shows appealing with the flashy explosions, acrobatics, flamboyant costumes/make-up, and rather colorful dialogue.
What I imagine, is that what put them on the spotlight was their very first series that came out way back in 1993.
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
Back then, this was cool! I wasn't alive of course, but this is what people of the times grew up with and thought of this as amazing stuff. Problem was, they continued with the same concept, even as times have passed since the 90's.
They didn't want to upgrade the visual quality even when other shows were doing so- successfully. While the franchise, was slowly declining, even as they kept remaking different series with different styles to keep them afloat. With this, the franchise inherited a bad reputation for rehashing the same stuff with a different set of Rangers with different abilities. One was police-themed, one was jungle-themed (I think), etc.
Then they took a dive and gladly disappeared for a while...
Later, they came back in 2011 with the Nickelodeon TV show, Power Rangers: Samurai:
Now, when this one first came out, I wanted to cry. However, my little brother took a liking to the commercials hyping up for the series premiere, and so, I had no choice but to watch it with him.Right from the start, those cheesy and obviously fake costumes were one of the first things I saw. I already started cringing. However, what I did like was that in this episode, the narrator introducing this set of "Samurai Rangers" acknowledged the fact that they were "another kind of Rangers." From what I remember, no other show has referenced the others, as they have all been reboots. This one gave its respects to its predecessors, so I gave it more credit for that.
