As of December 3, 2017, my current mental jam is "Song Of Hope" by Crush 40.
Some of you may have heard me mention this band a bunch of times before; probably more so for my readers of "Sonic & Friends Saga."
For those who don't know, Crush 40 is a rock band that is most notable for their work on the soundtracks for many Sonic The Hedgehog games.
For a while now, since probably-... let's say the early 2010s- this band hasn't made a song for any of the Sonic games from then to today. Which brings us fans to a point of concern, because this band has been a symbol of the series!
And it's not that they've stopped making music as a whole, they actually made their own album (where this song comes in) and two singles in their hiatus. They've claimed to still work for Sega, but it hasn't really shown...
Anyway, before I digress, Crush 40 is an extremely talented band. If you love rock, you will love these guys. "Rock" is such a broad term as far as a genre, I know, but that is actually the best way to describe them. They've done it all: race-track rock (what many will imagine as traditional "rock-n-roll"), metal, soft rock, alternative rock, and hard rock.
They're very old-fashioned, their music is something I'd probably play in Guitar Hero! This song here is probably one of their softer ones, and as the title implies, it's an inspirational song. And what a convenient time of when they made this (2015?), because this is where our world and its people really started dividing and began losing hope for unity and peace.
Johnny Gioeli really speaks from the heart here and is telling us all a clear message: don't lose hope. Stay strong everyone. "This is a Song Of Hope for you..."
~Let it be noted, if you are interested in this band, there are really only three songs (out of many) where they are clearly Sonic-based: "Sonic Heroes," "Sonic Youth," and "Sonic Boom (Crush 40/Cash Cash Remix)."
The rest are just in Sonic games, but can easily work as standalone songs if you take them out of context.
Just imagine, one of the worst Sonic games ever was "Sonic The Hedgehog (2006);" the only reason you will EVER hear a fan positively speak of that game, is for the soundtrack. Honestly, I think that album outperformed the game in terms of sales AND reviews. 😂
I recommend Crush 40 to anyone who just wants some old-school, underdog music- but along the lines of AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, and Bon Jovi.
*Too-da-loo!
