"Mel try this one!" Anne beamed throwing wedding dresses at me from every direction she could.
I was genuinely drowning in wedding dresses. A sentence I never thought I would say. Me and Anne were spending the day wedding shopping. We looked at everything from dresses to flowers to invitations to even my wedding night attire which was very weird to do considering she is Harrys mum. She didn't seem to bothered though and I found her picking out more raunchy pieces than I was. Again; that was quite weird.
Me and Anne were walking down the high street when a familiar voice called my name. I knew who it was straight away. I swore under my breath before turning around. This is not how I had planned it and I knew it could only end badly. Fuck.
"Hi mum." I said, awkwardly smiling.
"I've been wondering how you've been I haven't seen you since your birthday!"
"Yeah... I know, you er, you could of came over though mum?"
"I know Mel, but you know how it is."
Yeah watching Jeremy Kyle all day in your pyjamas must be really stressful. Jesus I couldn't deal with this right now. I was just about to turn away when she noticed the bags in my hands.
"Ooooh who's getting wed? Anyone I know?"
Anyone you know? Funny question actually. Considering she's my mum, yes, she should know me. She should know me better than anyone else but she doesn't really know me at all. It made me upset it had got to this point really. Any daughter would be celebrating with their mum that she was engaged to the best man alive yet here I was, trying to hide it from mine.
"It's me. I'm getting married."
"You?!" She almost screeched. "Why didn't you tell me?!"
I shrugged. "Dunno. Didn't think you'd be interested."
"Mel, of course I do! Do you need any help getting things ready? Have you got a date?"
"No... thanks. Anne is planning things with me and er, no not yet."
"Anne? Is this Anne?" She said glancing to the still-smiling woman next to me.
"Yes, this is Harrys mum." I nodded.
"Nice to meet you." Anne smiled.
My mum, rude as ever, chose to ignore her and looked back to me.
"You should of called me Mel." She attempted a laugh but I could see she was somewhat angry or embarrassed of the fact she didn't know her own daughter was getting married.
"Yeah well... you know how it is." I said raising my eyebrows.
She stared at me for a moment and shook her head.
"You'll let me know when you get married won't you? Me and your dad should be there." Her voice was small and she almost sounded as if she was begging.
"Yeah I guess. Tell dad he won't be the one giving me away though. Zayn is doing it and there's nothing you can do to change my mind."
She pressed her lips into a hard line and narrowed her eyes.
"I'll be in touch." I said quickly before turning away.
Well that was not how I planned the big reveal to my mum. I don't really know how I planned it to be honest, but it wasn't on a high street with Harrys mum that's for sure. When I walked away from my mum Anne quickly followed me, clearly confused.
"Shall we have a coffee break sweetie?" She said placing her hand on my back.
I nodded and we headed to the nearest starbucks.
