The smell of coffee-beans and the images of children playing in the living room while Saturday morning cartoons played in the background was quickly melted away. The smell of smoke was intoxicating the filled the lungs.
"MARINETTE!!!!"
"Mommy?! Mommy!!!" Voiced called out all around. Suddenly, a wall of flames came inching closer. They licked at the foot.
CRACK.
Above, a wooden beam, smoldering with embers came crashing down, right over head-

Marinette inhaled deeply as she bolted up into a sitting position. She coughed, and coughed until she was certain her lungs weren't burning from smoke in her lungs. She looked around wildly. No burning house, no screaming children... nothing. Instead of this 'nothing' giving her comfort, she began to cry. She reached for her phone and opened Adrien's contact.
Hey... are you up?
I am now, is everything okay?
I had a nightmare.

Adrien didn't text back. Five minutes later she asked if he had fallen asleep, only to be met with a tapping on her window. Sniffing, she threw the covers off and ran to the window, throwing it open. She hugged the familiar person who sat in the frame, who immediately hugged her back.
"Marinette? Are you alright?" He asked, his Chat Noir claws brushing her tear-stained cheek.

She nodded hesitantly. "I-I am now.." she whispered. Adrien's transformation dropped as he hugged her close. He was still in his pajamas, a shirt and flannel bottoms. His hair was messy and almost looked like it did when transformed.

He shut the window and then walked with her to the couch.
"Now... can you tell me what happened?" He asked gently, brushing her bangs out of her face.

Marinette nodded again and started from the beginning. By the time she was done with her story she was sobbing again, and shivering. Adrien picking her up in his arms, bridal style, and carefully carried the upset girl to her room. He set her down in her bed and drew the covers up. He went to the bathroom that connected to her room and dampened a washcloth with warm water and brought it over to Marinette. He sat on the other side of the bed, facing her.

Marinette sniffed. "Thank you.." she whispered as he wiped away her tears with the wash cloth.
"Of course. Just focus on settling down. You are okay." He smiled, just barely visible in the poorly lit room.
"Can you stay here for a little bit?" She asked as Adrien put the wash cloth back into the bathroom, hanging it over the sink faucet to dry. He brushed her bangs out of her face.
"I'll stay as long as you need to me." He pulled the puffy white comforter up to her shoulders as she settled back down.

Adrien walked to the other side of Marinette's queen sized bed and climbed up. Marinette immediately cuddled up next to him. He put his hand on her head and smoothed down her messy bed head.
"Get some rest, my lady." He whispered as he settled down.

The next morning, Adrien found himself in Marinette's room, the sound of heavy rain pounding against the roof and the rumbling of thunder in the distance. Marinette was curled up right besides him, her forehead almost touching his chest, her knees poking his thighs.

He recalled the nightmare she had told him about. In all honesty, it freaked him out. It sounded like she had what started out as a dream. It sounded like what she hoped to be their future. Then it quickly escalated to a nightmare. The person who yelled her name must've been him, and the people yelling "mommy" must've been their children.

'Our children...' the mere thought of it made him blush. Adrien wanted children one day. He wanted to be able to give them a life he never had. The nice house in the neighborhood, the two car garage and white fence surrounding the green yard with a large tree in the back where the kid's tree house was built in. A dog and a cat roaming around. And him, with Marinette. Cooking together, cleaning together, going out on family vacations and even vacations with just him and Marinette.
