Fast forwarded to eighth grade middle school

Kade's POV

Middle school.

Two years ago I was terrified to leave the bark box of elementary school. Now I'm about to leave the rush hour of the student body.

It's finally the last day of school and I can't wait to wave goodbye to this horrid atmosphere. "Whoop whoop! Summer break losers!" Andiana came up from behind me on her penny board, wearing her signature graphic tee and ripped denim, the purple streak in her hair all in her face. I, so ever, cling to the textbooks in my hand and fluffed out my orange ombré shorts. I chose to make a statement leaving middle school. My whole life I've been concealed under plain clothes and a quiet voice. But now, I'm going to be noticed. I wore my orange ombré shorts, neon orange vans, and white Hollister tee shirt. I pinned my hair up in a tight bun.

I sighed. "Last day of school. I still can't believe you caught up a whole grade and you dress like this." I said, gesturing to her look.

"Haters gonna hate." She shrugged.

We walked through the maroon painted metal gates of the front building and walked into English just before the late bell rang.

Andi and I high fived when we saw that we were, for the first time the whole school year, taking a break from learning and watching a movie. "I thought you would all enjoy taking a break from paper work, since it's your last day, watching The Diary of Anne Frank." Our teacher smiled.

The entire class groaned. Seriously? When will we ever need this?

The lights went dim and the projector shot out the images.

I laid my head down for an hour nap.

"Kadey Kins! Get up before I leave without you!" I heard Andi's sing songy voice. I snapped my head up. The lights were on and everyone was waiting by the door.

I yawned and stretched, standing up. I heard faint giggles from the line of kids. Three girls were huddled together, snickering.

"What's their problem?" I asked Andi, bending down to grab my bag.

"Uh..."

"What?" I furrowed my eyebrows at her.

"You got a little something on your pants..." She looked up at the ceiling.

I looked down. "Where? I don't see anything."

"Not the front, the...back."

"Goddess! Just tell me already!" I whisper shouted.

"I think you...got your period." She smiled sheepishly.

My eyes widened as I twisted my torso, trying to see how bad my pants were stained. The bell rang and my face heated up as everyone left and new kids were coming in.

"Don't panic, okay. I've got some spare shorts in my locker. I'll cover you." I nodded. I walked out of the classroom and hurried for the lockerroom.

"Andi hurry up, I don't want to be la-" Andi was no longer behind me, instead she was flirting with the school jock, and leaving me exposed.

Someone bumped me from behind, making my books fall out into the concrete. I hurried to collect them.

"Move out of the way, Kotex!" A boy yelled, nearly tripping over my figure.

Yeah, I really made my statement.

Way to go, Kotex.
