Kade's POV

It was so peaceful, the bonfire. The dark night sky was illuminated by millions of twinkling stars.

Mason's chest rose slow and steady against my head. The boys sang one of their new songs, You & I, I saw their music video and thought it was amazing. I even fantasized about becoming a singer when I was younger.

We started chit chatting once the boys finished their song. "Hey, I have something for you, wait here." Mason got up and headed for the hotel.

Mom turned to me. "Mason seems like a really nice boy."

I smiled. "He is. He treats me right."

"He better." Marcel muttered. I punched his arm and he winced.

"Sorry MarMar."

"MarMar?" He asked, rubbing his forearm.

"Yeah, that's your nickname. Pretty neat, eh?" I joked.

"Yep, neat." He said with a nervous laugh.

**

"It's been almost thirty minutes where can he be?" I murmured to myself.

"Everything alright?" Mom asked. I was waiting at the edge of the shore, letting the ocean waves roll over my feet.

"Yeah, just waiting for Mason." I gave her a small smile.

"Where did he run off to anyways." I was just about to reply when a loud sound echoed off of the walls.

"Wow, that was weird." I laughed, turning to my mom. Only she wasn't standing, she was lying motionless on the sandy floor. "Mom!"

I reached down and took her face in my hands. She wasn't breathing. "Help!"

Harry, Edward, and Marcel were the closet and ran over, followed by everyone else. "Karma!" Harry pushed in front of everyone, tears in his eyes. I let them take control. I shook and balled my eyes out.

All I could think of was how did this happen?

"We have to get her to a hospital." Liam said. Louis pressed his ear to her chest where her heart is.

"Sh-she's gone." Tears fell from his eyes.

"M-mom! Wake u-up! Mom please!" I cried. I shook her shoulders, but nothing happened. "Mom!" I screamed. Marcel grabbed my shoulders and pulled me away from her. "No! Let go of me! Mom!"

"Kade, she's gone." Marcel whispered.

"No, no she's not! She's alive! She has to be." I whispered the last bit.

The faint sound of clapping was coming from down the shore way. The figure was blurred by all my tears. "You put on quite the show, Kade."

"Mason?" I heard Marcel whisper. I rubbed at my eyes and my vision cleared up.

"Mason?"

"Don't be so surprised, Kade. I am, in fact, your dad's nephew." He smirked.

"Louis doesn't have a nephew." I whispered.

"You really are stupid, are you? Try thinking again." He rolled his eyes.

Drew.

"You're Drew's nephew, aren't you?"

"Ding ding ding. We have a winner." He began to remove something from his belt. A gun.

"Watch out!" Marcel stood in front of me and Mason shot, firing a bullet straight through Marcel.

"Marcel no!" He collapsed to the ground, a red pool of blood leaking out to sea. "Oh God Marcel, I can't lose you."

He coughed and wheezed, weakly. "I had to p-protect y-you. I'm your guardian angel."

Tears began to start falling down my face again. "But who's supposed to protect you?"

He smiled. "Don't cry, lovely. I always thought you were beautiful with a smile." He brought his hand up to touch my cheek and I intertwined out other hands. "I will always be guarding you from the gates of Heaven. I love you, Kade. Remember that."

His eyes drooped and his hand fell from my cheek. I cried into his breathless chest.

A cold metal touched my forehead. "This sappy stuff is very touching, believe me." He took the safety off of the gun.

For a moment, I was okay with dying.
