Kade's POV

Mason

Why had that name struck me so hard?

"Lux, dear? Your mum is here to pick you up." My mom's head poked through the threshold, breaking me from my thoughts.

"Oh...okay." Lux sadly got up and I followed her to the front door.

Her mom looks exactly like her. Blonde hair and captivating eyes. "Hey, sweetums!" They hugged and she thanked is for having Lux over.

"Oh no problem Lou, it was great meeting you. I'll see you next week at graduation." With that, my mom shut the door.

"Graduation?" I asked.

"You're graduating from Kindergarten and going into first grade after summer break." She switched on the television and I sat down watching ABC Family, which was playing different movies.

*One Week Later*

"Mom, this hat is too big!" I complained about the paper hat that read 'Congrats Grads!' in glitter. My mom snapped pictures with her camera from the white plastic row of chairs below the outdoor stage. All my uncles smiled at me while making conversation.

My teacher fixed our hair with plastic combs and volunteers adjusted our formal attire. This time, Uncle Brett chose my outfit. He chose a pair of light pink Vans, a pink floral tank top, and a solid pink skirt. Secretly, he knows how to braid hair! He loosely braided it while sticking flower clips between gaps.

"Alright, volunteers and parents please exit the stage, we are now beginning the ceremony." The teacher said into the microphone.

"This is exciting!" Lux took her alphabetical place in front of me since her last name is Teasdale and mine is Tomlinson.

"Eh not really." I flicked my paper hat.

The teacher called all eight students until it was just me and Lux left. "Lux Teasdale."

Lux walked forward, slightly fumbling over her Mary Janes, and hugged the teacher. She reached for her "diploma", snapped a quick picture, and walked over to her family. I watched as her dad pat her back and a little boy with blonde hair hugged her.

He looked up slightly, his brown eyes meeting my eyes. I do love my eyes, though I usually keep them green because it's unusual and it's not like humans can have naturally rainbow colored eyes, eh? I could've sworn he smiled at me. "Kade?" I snapped my gaze away and turned to my teacher.

It turns out she had called me and my family was trying to get my attention. I blushed deeply and hurried over to get the rolled up paper.

I sat at the largest table, eating the food from the pot luck. For an outdoor kindergarten graduation, it was pretty loud. I excused myself to join up with Lux in the bark box. "Sup Luxxy?"

She turned around and grabbed my wrist. "Kadey! This is my big brother Mason!" The tall boy behind her smiled.

I suddenly felt a lump in my throat, at a loss for words. "H-he-hey." I managed, coughing at the end.

"Ah you must be one of Lux's only friends." He chuckled. She punched his arm. "I'm Mason, as you know, I'm seven. You?"

"Erm...five, I guess you can say, going on six. Supernatural growth." I nervously laughed. A group of boys were shouting behind us.

"That's my friends. Nice meeting you Kade!" He jogged off in the other direction and I watched his retreating figure.

"Ship!" Lux randomly shouted.

"What?"

"Ship! I ship thee as Kason or Made!" She squealed.

"Gah shut up." I murmured, punching her arm.
