Grow Old Without You (Chapter 69)

Lana

We've landed Miami, and went straight into the house. Abuela Clara was there, so we were really happy we'll be taken care of. Kara was sad that we wouldn't be with Aunt Keana when they bring her to surgery in California. But Inigo's brother would be there. I heard that's her boyfriend. I'm curious, but I have to let them get Aunt Keana better, so I could grill her and this boyfriend of hers.

We had dinner at some restaurant Abuela loves, and went straight home to get some rest.

"Do you think Mama and Mommy will get custody of Amin and Asha?" Kara asked as we were getting ready for bed.

"I hope they do. I don't want Amin and Asha to feel like they're unwanted and abandoned for the rest of their lives. How would you feel if your parents died, and then sent back to some orphange   while at war?" I asked Kara as she sighed and pouted.

"I don't think there are enough tears I'd cry." I truthfully said as I looked at my sister. "We lived almost our whole lives with just one parent, and we felt like there was something missing. What more if we lost both and lived somewhere nobody wants us."

"And with this war?" Kara shook her head. "I'm just happy Mama is safe, and we'd all be together now."

"Do you think we'll finally be happy now? After all these years, we will all be together, living together." I asked her after we've settled in bed. Kara was about to shut her eyes.

"Mama and Mommy just want us to be happy. Even when we're together or not. But ofcourse, it's better if we're all together, you know." She said looking at me straight in the eyes. "I love you, Lana, you know that right?"

"Ofcourse I do. We feel it, even if we don't say it."

It didn't turn out the way we wanted it. I mean it did, but not what we initially planned. Amin and Asha are now in my custody, not Camila's. Camila's upset. I know even though she doesn't say it.

"Atleast we can bring them to the States, and out of here. That's what matters the most, right?" Camila said as we were packing our clothes. We already had the papers sent to our lawyers in Miami, and while we're flying, they'll be able to process it.

"Babe, I know this is not how you planned it, but you also know that you can get their custody after a while." I said.

"Have you realised all my kids are in your custody?" She looked hurt.

Fuck. That's true.

"I know I seem not to be a fit parent right now. But it hurts, you know? That you can use my kids against me, when I hurt you again."

"Camz." I sighed going closer to her and wrapping my arms around her. "Your recovery has been amazing. You've done well. And I don't think you will intentionally hurt me, right? If you want me to marry you right now, I would, if the custody is just what matters to you. You know I'll do everything to make you happy, baby. Everything."

"Promise me you'll never use them against me?"

"Camz, trust me on this when I tell you I won't use the kids against you. I will never use them against you, or teach them to hate you. I love you, we all love you, and we support you. The only thing we will do to you is to take care of you, cherish you, and spoil you." I said kissing her sweetly. "I love you, please don't ever doubt our intentions for you."

The country granted the physical custody of Amin and Asha to me, and Camila and I already processed the adoption papers, which would probably take a couple more weeks. But we need to go home, and the country already gave us the go signal that we could bring the kids with the right documentation. So we did.
