Grow Old Without You (Chapter 46)

CAMILA

I got out of the room after I tucked Lauren in bed. I made sure the doors were locked, and everyone was already in their respective rooms. But the living room light was still on, and Inigo was there, getting his things fixed before he headed to his "bed".

"You know, there really is a spare bed in our room if you'd like to feel comfortable." I said as Inigo whipped his head to my direction. I guess I frightened him a bit.

"Camila, it's okay." He smiled at me as I shook my head and giggled.

"You actually own this shit, and you're sleeping on the couch. That sounds kinda rude, don't you think?" I giggled again as he laughed softly.

"Wouldn't it be awkward for the three of us to share a room? I think it's really awkward you know." He said scrunching his nose, the same way Lauren does.

"If I actually think about it, it really is kinda awkward." We both laughed. "Sorry if I'm disturbing your routin--"

"It's okay. I'm not really sleepy yet, so you're good company, Camila. Sit down. Welcome to my room." He said as I laughed and sat down the couch adjacent to his bed for tonight. I grabbed the covers as I put it around my body. I sighed contently, and caught Inigo staring at me with his grey eyes.

"Staring much?" I joked as he shook his head and laughed.

"You were awfully quiet earlier. Are you okay?" He asked me seriously as I nodded my head softly. "You know, we haven't really formally met, and all I know are stories about you when Lauren was talking about her quote-unquote best years of her life. And, she didn't even say you were her ex, and much more, the mother of her child." He smiled sadly as I sighed.

"I'm sorry. I guess I wasn't that important? I made so much mistakes, causing the divorce and her moving here. So I guess her completely erasing me in her life was her part of coping." I said truthfully.

"You walk in a person's life, you stay in it, make memories. Good ones or bad ones. You stay in a person's life because you matter, and you're important. She married you. You matter to her, whatever happened to your marriage, you still matter, 'cos you're still here right?" Inigo said as I looked up at him. "She forgave you. And that's a good enough reason to be better."

"I-I." I was speechless.

"She loves you. After all this time. That's enough reason to fight for this."

"I am." I whispered, looking down at my hands. "I-I just n-need time."

"No one's rushing you, Cami." He said, as I looked up. He gave me a nickname.

"I like you." I smiled at him as his eyebrows furrowed. "God. Not in that way!" I giggled putting my hands on my face. "No!" I laughed as I heard him laugh too.

"This is getting too funny." He laughed as I shook my head.

"You are a good person, Inigo. Sorry if I seemed to hate you in the beginning." I said as he nodded his head.

"I understand. But you don't have anything to get jealous about anymore." He smiled sadly. "We're really good friends now."

I just nodded my head and smiled at him.

"How was Lauren when you met her?" I was curious.

"Oh. She was actually a mess when I met her. She was taking things by day. She didn't actually trust anyone other than Keana, so it was hard. But she came around eventually." He sighed. "Can I ask you what happened, if it's okay?"
