*the night they leave for vacation*
"Everybody put your bag in the car! We are leaving in 5 minutes, so load up!" Anna called through the house.
I double checked my room to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything. Not like I had anything to forget other than clothes anyways.
I walked through the house, turning all the lights off when I ran into Anna.
"Oh, good. I got you a little present. Don't worry, it didn't cost too much. I just thought it would give you something to do on the trip. I already downloaded all your songs from the computer onto it." Anna said, handing me an ipod. Nothing fancy, but music!
"Thank you! Yes, this will surely be better than silence." I laughed.
"Yeah, it's going to be pretty boring. You can't watch the scenery because it's dark, and we can't listen to music out loud because the little ones will be sleeping. I'm glad you like it." She said.
We went to the car and Anna climbed into the back seat. There were two seats in the front of the van, two in the middle, and a long seat that fit 3 in the back.
"I'm going to take a little nap, I had a long day at work. Tell me when you're done driving, Ross." Anna said. There was a blanket back there that she covered up with.
"Looks like you're the navigator." Ross said to me.
He pulled out of the driveway as I set up the GPS. This couldn't be too hard. Just a bit boring. I was here to do two things, navigate and keep Ross company so he doesn't get tired. I couldn't listen to my music because that would be defeating the purpose.
"Have you ever been to the beach?" I asked him.
"Nope. We didn't have much money growing up. Have you?" Ross asked.
"Many times. I traveled the world with my mom when I was younger." I said.
"Sounds like you guys had money. Why are you here then?" Ross asked.
"Well, I mean a lot of things have happened since then." I told him and sighed.
"I'm sorry." He said. Then back to silence.
Ross drove for a few hours, me telling him where to turn and us talking about random things that came to our head.
He suddenly pulled over. "I can't drive anymore, i'm too tired." Ross said, climbing into the back seat. "Anna, wake up. My turn to sleep."
"Ugh. Okay, okay. I'm coming." She said. She hopped into the drivers seat and we were off.
After about an hour or two, I couldn't stop yawning.
"Do you want to go back and sleep, too? I'm sure Ross wouldn't mind sharing." Anna told me.
"I have to stay up with you." I said.
"I think i'll be good. I have coffee, and i'm already wide awake. I sometimes work midnight shifts, i'm used to it." She said.
"If you insist. Goodnight." I said, trying to quietly make my way to the back seat.
"Huh?" Ross mumbled as I sat beside him.
"Anna is driving on her own. I'm coming back here to sleep, share the blanket." I whispered.
"Oh, Cam. Here." He whispered back, letting me under the big blanket.
I fell asleep with my head resting on his shoulder and his arm around me.
I woke up to a loud thud. Ross jolted up beside me.
"Shit." I heard Anna mumble, pulling over. It was still dark outside.
