Chapter 4: “Just tell her”
It had been several weeks since Moonlight woke up in the turtle’s lair. She had been introduced to the lovers that belonged to the turtles. Nobody came over the very next day after Moonlight woke up at the request of Leo. Followed by Nano and Ananda who were with Mikey. Finally, Raptarr came with Donny. Along the way, Moonlight had been introduced to April and Casey, who brought Angle with them. Within an hour, Moonlight had become instant friends with Ananda (who wanted Moonlight to call her Ana,) April, and Angle. After Moonlight was well enough to stand, Master Splinter insisted that she got her own room, so that she would not have to be in the infirmary any longer. She helped out around the lair as much as she could, and as much as everyone would let her. Now, several weeks later, she could feel her strength coming back to her with every passing day. The turtles themselves were kind and loving, and did whatever they could to keep Moonlight from straining herself. It had been just the other day, when she had told them she was well enough to do things on her own, even though she knew very well that she might cause herself more damage.
Moonlight sat on the couch reading a book Leo had given her. She listened to the sound of metal against medal as Leo and Raph spared in the middle of the lair. After the night Raph had gone to the infirmary and found Moonlight’s sketch book, he had become even more hostile with her. She did not know why, but she was beginning to worry.
After being moved into her own room, she had been getting up early to cook breakfast for the guys, and anyone else who was over. During the day, she would help out around the lair by keeping it clean. She also worked with Donny when he made new inventions, and helped him build them. Leo had started training Moonlight in the art of ninjutsu. In return, she trained Leo in the art of cooking, after she found out how bad he was at it, and after he asked if she could teach him. Moonlight would watch movies and TV shows with Mikey when Nano and Ana were busy. They would share stories and teach each other new recipes, because Mikey was the cook of the family. She would meditate with Master Splinter, and have tea with him when his sons where out. Raph… there wasn’t a whole lot Moonlight could do with him. Every time she made a small mistake in training, he would laugh, and tell Leo there was no point in training her. He made mean comments when he had the chance. The only time he was ever nice to her was when he wasn’t around.
After several grunts, Moonlight herd someone drop their weapons. She turned to see Raph looking down at Leo as he reached to pick up his katana.
Once Leo was not looking Raph turned to see Moonlight watching them. She turned around again and started to read. When she wasn’t working or doing anything, Raph always liked to look over at her. Leo looked up and saw that his brother’s attention was somewhere else. He followed Raph’s gaze, and saw that he was looking at Moonlight. The look on Raph’s face was all too familiar to Leo, it was some look Leo used when he looked at Nobody, when Nobody wasn’t looking. It was a look that someone used when they wanted to look at their crush.
Then, it finally struck Leo. The reason why Raph was always rude to Moonlight was because he had feelings for her. Raph had been the same way with Tsunami before they were together. It all made perfect sense.
“Hey Moonlight, do you want to join us in a sparring match?” Leo yelled across the lair.
“Sure. I would love to!” Moonlight said. She put her book down and raised to her feet. Leo led Raph and Moonlight into the weapons room so Moonlight could choose a weapon. Moonlight walked over to the wall that held a wood cutting ax, and picked it up. She twirled it around a few times to get used to its weight. Neither Raph nor Leo knew she could use an ax as a weapon. She walked back out into the lair and to where to the two brothers were waiting for her. Leo looked confused at first, but said nothing. Raph eyed the weapon Moonlight chose and let out a quiet chuckle.
