Georgia woke to the black ceiling and pale purple walls. She tried to get upbut collapsed on the floor in a fit of screams. The ground beat as someone bounded up the stairs and opened the door, Nathan crouched down next to her.
'Shit, are you okay?' He asked.
'Yeah.' Georgia croaked out, her voice turning to whispers.
'No you ain't, you just let out a scream that could wake the dead.' Nathan laughed.
Georgia tried to join in with the laugh but a scraping pain stopped it early. Nathan delicately picked her up and placed her back onto the bed.
'You're lucky to be alive.' Nathan sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed.
'I don't understand.' Georgia's voice crackled through each word.
Nathan lightly ran his fingers along her neck, grazing the white bandage she now wore. Georgia bit her lip as a pain shot through her body, desperate to stifle her screams. Nathan just looked at Georgia sorrowfully.
'You're lucky Jet found you.' Nathan said
Her cheeks grew to a shade of pink and Nathan chuckled to himself as he brought himself up.
'Get some rest, Georgia.' Nate said pulling the blankets back over her.
Nate cast one last glance at her, unable to hide the pain on his face, he was determined to keep her safe, he softly closed the door,
'George.' Jet called out from the shadows.
'Hi.' Georgia tried to keep the tremor out of her voice.
'How are you?' Jet took a step closer, his eyes drawn to the crisp bandage around her throat.
'Fine.' One word answers was all she could manage.
'It's a nice mark you got there?' Jet said, acknowledging the hidden wound.
She snorted with laughter could feel the wound move and part, she cringed but tried to cover it up, she didn't need Jet to mock her pain.
'Thank you.' Georgia whispered, fidgeting with the blankets in her lap.
'You're just a damsel in distress. You seemed to need a bit of saving.' Jet said leaning closer.
'You sound like one of those cheesy romance novels my mum used to read.' Georgia croaked out, smiling.
'We haven't even gotten to the best part yet.' Jet winked.
Georgia gave him a weak smile and looked at her hands 'Why did I have to mention mum.' A small lump formed in the back of her throat and her eyes started stinging, but she couldn't cry in front of him. 'I just want her to hug me and tell me everything is going to be okay, in that annoyingly optimistic manner of hers.' Georgia willed herself to forget as Jet leant over and hugged her.
'I'm sorry about your mum.' He whispered into her ear.
She was surprised, she didn't remember telling him about her mother, Aly must have said something. Georgia melted into his touch and hugged him back, grateful for the human contact, even if her bandaged neck did protest at the position. He gave her one last squeeze, causing her pain to tumble out of her mouth, he quickly let her go.
'I'd love to stay and chat with you George, but you have no voice and need to sleep. I'll talk to you when you wake up.' Jet said heading towards the door.
Georgia nodded and curled onto her side, pulling the blankets up to create a small cocoon for her to sleep into. Jet opened and shut the door before sitting down in the chair in the corner. He knew her injury was his fault and he would do his duty to protect her.
