Slow and calm; walking
Pitter patter of rubber
Against hard cement
Soles of shoes slap
Against the floor.
Hurry, hurry,
And they increase
In hurried frenzy
Like the first drops of'
Rain falling down, down
Into a chaotic mess of sound;
Stomp Stomp
Black boots bash
Against relentless floor that
Refuses to yield to the boots
Destruction of silence.
Hurry! Hurry!
Faster they intensify
Faster. Faster!
Miniature earthquakes
Rocking the earth
Slam! Stomp! Smack!
The very dirt shakes
Under stampede of shoes
CRACK.
And suddenly, suddenly.
The floor collapses
No more footsteps.
Just
Silence.
