Drowning in tears

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.

But I say not

True the world is dying
True the world will end
For everything which lives,
Breathes, must die
But neither fire nor ice
Will hold the bloody dagger
To earth's throat

Neither burns nor frostbite
Neither sparks nor snowflakes
Neither fire nor ice will harm
Any precious living creatures
Who treasure Earth as home

I say Earth will perish in tears

Global warming, that treacherous
Rising of the seas
The mighty waves ever stronger,
Higher, deadlier
Yet these waves shed tears
For when they were gentle beings
Joy at beaches, love of the surfers
Until humans kind came
Pouring waste into the ocean
Poisoning their golden hearts
Turning clear blue into murky green
Acidic and harmful

And the skies weeps
Once it was sapphire
Now it's gloomy gray
Once it was home to the birds
Now the birds are falling
Once everyone embraced the rain
Now acid rain burns flesh

Humans shed tears for their mistakes
Too late perhaps?
When dying of suffocation in smoke
When drowning in poisoned water
That they themselves created
Now the tears of the earth
Weeping in self pity

When will humans
Ever learn from our mistake?
But alas history has it written down
In paper and etched in stone
Historians come to the horrified
Realisation

Never.

But we can change for the better.
Just one step, one small baby step
One step at a time
And perhaps the world won't
Drown in tears
