When the light of hope is gone
The lure of the elusive moon
Dragging the gullible sun away
And leaving darkness in its wake
Hear it, the war
Arguments of the night
Words daring to venture out
Hurtful insults to petty things
Grades turn the smile
Upside down; once upon a time
Happy households lasted long
But our generation, no longer
Do you see the mother inside?
The one who loves more than any could?
Yet now the Tigress emerges
Growling, claws unsheathed like blades
Tongue sharp like a polished dagger
Piercing the heart and poisoning it
With barbed fangs of fury
Do you see the child?
Cowering perhaps, under her wrath
Or protesting violently against family
Matching mocking for mocking
Claw for claw, eye for an eye
And makes the whole household blind;
Where has filial piety vanished to?
Where the respect, the obedience
Have they been washed down the drain?
And I, the neighbour
Succumb to the Bystander Effect
Ignoring the chill radiating
And silently close the windows
Blocking out the war
Someone do something
But there's no one to hear you
