Mock ye they who prance and dance
Twisting under whip's cackle
Jeer thee at they who snarl
Growling, tame on iron leash
They twirl and spin and snap and trip
Upon the stage, the dusty floor
They fly yet fall, and fall and break
Their shattered hearts upon the dust
But the circus mocks ye back
Frowning, grinning, the clowns do jest
The beats rear and strike thee necks
The cat pounces on the rats who bleed
Mock thee at thy peril
The twisted creatures of circus
Tame no more, the beasts roar
And claim the light and night again
