Adams p.o.v
As soon as I realized how bad I messed up, I left. I can't believe how stupid I am.
As I walk out the front door, I hear her following me. I turn to tell her I need some space, when I see a shadow move to the side of the house.
"Avery?" I call out, slowly walking towards the side of the house. When I go to look around the corner, I hear tires screech on the street. I turn my head and see a black van pulling away from the curb.
Why do I have such a bad feeling?
I get in my car and turn on the engine, quickly backing out of the drive way. I discreetly follow the van, making sure to not lose track of it. After about an hour, the van stops outside some abandoned house in the country.
I stop a little behind and watch them come out of the van. I see them open the back and pull someon- I freeze, immediately stunned by my the red hair that is pulled out of the van.
I reach into the glove compartment and grab my gun, immediately running out of my car.
"Get the fuck away from her Daryl," I spit out, pointing my gun straight at him. "Look who we have here boys," he laughs, tugging Avery up by her hair.
She lets out a whimper as she looks straight into my eyes. I look away to see Daryl pull out his gun and put it on Averys back.
"How about you join us and we'll let this sweet thing go, huh?" He says as he pulls averys hair, producing another whimper. "You don't want to mess with me," I seethe as my fingers tighten around my gun. "Just give her to me and no one will get hurt," I say, reaching my arm out for Avery.
"A a a, that's not how this works," Daryl says as he pushes Avery to the ground behind him, pointing his gun at me. "I'm not scared of you," I say, staring straight at him. "I would hope not," he laughs turning and pointing his gun at Avery, keeping his eyes on me.
"What do you want," I say, trying to keep my composure. He can't see how much she means to me. "I want you to join us. Be our leader," he says with a commanding tone. "If that's what you want," I say, crouching to set my gun on the ground.
"Adam," Avery whimpers, causing Daryl to shoot. I aim my gun and shoot his gang, then shooting him straight between the eyes. I see someone run away but I don't care.
"Avery," I rush over to her side to see blood pooling out her side. "I-I'm so-sorry," she says, a tear falling out of her eye. "Hey hey sweetheart, it's ok," I say, phoning Jake.
"Hello," I hear as I pull Avery into my arms. "Get your ass to my house now. Code red," I yell as I hang up and set Avery in the back. I get in the drivers seat and pull out of the dirt, speeding down the road.
"A-Adam," she says and I look at her through the mirror. I see blood coming out her mouth as she coughs. "I'm gonna get you help love, I promise," I say as my foot accelerates on the pedal. We make it to my house and I pull into the driveway to see Jake waiting on the porch.
"Come on sweetheart," I say as I pick her up out of the car. I hear her cry out as I jog up to the door. "What the fuck man," I hear Jake say as he busts down my door.
Jake clears off the kitchen table and I lay Avery down. Jake rushes around the kitchen and grabs the things we need. "Everything's going to be ok love. I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere," I say as she starts to scream in pain.
"M-make it stop! Please," she screams as she clutches my hand in hers. Jake starts to cut off her shirt and pours alcohol on the bullet wound. I look away, not being able to watch what he's doing.
"Shit man, this is bad," Jake says as he looks up at me. "Just fix her, please," I beg as I grab Avery's face. "Sweetheart, this is going to heart like hell but I want you to look at me, ok? Can you do that for me?" I ask and she nods her head.
I grasp her hand in mine and kiss her knuckles. "Avery I'm so sorry," Jake says as he goes to pull out the bullet. She screams, writhing on the table. "I know love. Look at me, keep your eyes on me," I say as I turn her head towards me.
She closes her eyes and I swear she stops breathing. "It's out," Jake says as Avery lays still on the table. "She's ok, she just passed out," Jake says as he cleans and sews her up.
I keep my hand in hers as I move the hair out of her face. "What the hell even happened?" Jake asks as he cleans up. "The Serpents," is all I say, keeping my eyes on Avery.
"Fuck," I say, standing up. "Where are you going?" Jake yells as he runs in front of me. "I need to go clean up my mess," I say, my hands shaking as I reach for the door.
"I got it man. You need to be here for Avery when she wakes up. She needs you. You might not know it but she does. Your good for her. The shit that happened tonight is not your fault, you hear me?" Jake says as he pushes me back towards Avery.
I nod my head and walk over to Avery and pick her up, carrying her upstairs as I hear the door close.
