We were at another one of Tony's ravish parties, where out of the hundred or so people there I only really knew about 10 people. I was sat at the bar sipping on my drink watching everyone else enjoying themselves, a group next to me started laughing at rhodey's war machine story. I shake my head, if only they heard about our stories. I return my attention back to my drink swirling it slightly deciding whether to make an early exit and head down to my room, "not your scene huh?" I hear behind me, I turn round to see Steve leaning up against the bar. I shake my head chuckling "no not really, I barely know anyone here" I say looking round the room, "hey you know me" Steve laughs grabbing a bottle of beer from behind the bar "very true, although you seemed to be enjoying that game of pool so I decided not to interrupt" I say shrugging my shoulders. "yeah, it was a fun game, I won it too, Sam wasn't that happy" he smirks taking a sip of his beer, "I'm sure he wasn't, he's probably finding something to beat you on right now" I laugh nodding over to Sam who looked deep in thought. Steve looks over and laughs "yeah probably, do you want to play a game, unless you want to keep gazing into your drink" he smirks "I mean it's a pretty nice looking drink" he adds, I laugh downing the last part of my drink "well me and the drink are over now so let's go play a game" I say hopping down and heading towards the pool table. Me and Steve spent the rest of the evening together and the thoughts I had of ducking out were completely gone as I was finally having some fun. The guests had all left leaving just us avengers sat around talking, "okay lets change the topic because this is getting weird" Clint says shaking his head, "okay what to legolass" tony scoff reclining back on the couch. "I don't know man uh the best birthday we've ever had?" Clint suggests, the team laugh at the suggest "okay, since we have nothing better I'll get the ball rolling mine was last year when I had the biggest birthday party ever, I got my suits to spell out happy birthday to me" tony says making me roll my eyes at the extravagance. "cap you go next" tony says pointing over to Steve, Steve shrugs his shoulders "uh I the one the year before we went to war, me and Bucky went to the independence day firework since I told him I hadn't gone since my mom died" Steve says with a bittersweet smile, knowing the fact that Bucky was alive and out there somewhere was hard on him. The rest of the team went through their best birthdays, Clint saying it was when he got his first bow and arrow "okay (Y/N) what about you?" he asks. I bite my lip and shrug "meh they were all pretty much the same, don't think I could choose just one" I say shrugging my shoulders not wanting to go any further into it. luckily the conversation changed quickly and nobody questioned what I said.

Steve's POV

I was walking past the labs when Bruce ran out stopping me "hey Steve can I ask you something?" he asks, "uh yeah what do you need?" I ask stepping into the labs. "you remember the party tony had a couple of days ago?" Bruce starts, I sigh dropping my shoulders "okay what embarrassing video of drunk tony did you find?" I ask. Bruce shakes his head "none for once, but you remember after the party when we were all sat around talking and we got onto birthdays" Bruce says, I furrow my brows confused as to where this was going "uh yeah, why?" I ask, "well (Y/N) said all hers were practically the same and kinda dodged the question, and that got me thinking, do we actually know when her birthday is?" Bruce continues. "of course we do, it's er" I say trying to think when it was, I then realise I didn't know and she never actually told me "your right, we don't know" I mutter shaking my head. "and we've known her for over a year now" Bruce continues making my face falls "which means we've missed her birthday at least once, we are such bad friends" I realise, Bruce nods his head. "look I'll see what I can find out, I feel really bad about not knowing it" I sigh making my way out of the labs, i head down to the floor where all our rooms were. I knock on her door and wait for her to answer, when she does she immediately greets me with a smile "hey Steve what's up?" she asks. "is it alright if I come in?" I ask hopefully, "uh yeah come in" she says stepping aside to allow me to enter "is everything alright?" she asks leaning up against the closed door. "yeah I was just thinking about tony's party a couple days ago" I start burying my hands in my pockets, (Y/N) looks at me slightly confused "yeah what about it?" she says with a slight laugh. "well when we were talking about our best birthdays and I realised none of us actually know when your birthday is" I explain, (Y/N) purses her lips nodding her head "oh" she mutters. "look Steve the only reason I've never told someone is because I never really had one" she sighs looking down at her feet, "oh really? Why not?" I ask "sorry that was too forward and rude" I apologise shaking my head making (Y/N) laugh slightly. "its fine, when I was little my parents didn't have a lot of money that they could spend on me for my birthday so my birthdays consisted on a meal out with vouchers they saved and maybe an old toy from a yard sale if I was lucky" (Y/N) explains moving to sit on her bed, "and when I was six they both died in a car crash and I went into care, from one care home to another until I was 18 and joined shield." She continues, I move to sit next to her and put an arm around her. "and while I was in the many, many care homes I didn't get to celebrate it, I just got a larger dinner portion or a cupcake, so I never really wanted to celebrate my birthday because I never really have before" (Y/N) finishes shrugging her shoulders, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to pull this up, I just was curious when your birthday was" I apologise rubbing her shoulder. (Y/N) chuckles slightly "Steve it's fine I'm used to it now, and it's the 11th of july" she smiles my eyes widen "that's only 2 weeks away!" I exclaim but (Y/N) just shrugs her shoulders "I guess it is".
