Skinny Love

I was walking through central park alone, not really doing anything just looking around drinking my coffee. It was quite early in the morning, earlier than I would normally be up but for some reason I woke up super early and couldn't get back to sleep. I paused on one of the bridges that over looked a lake smiling as I saw the ducks and ducklings swim across, I notice someone running on the path that lead to the bridge and the glint of blond made me recognise them instantly. I pull my jacket and scarf up to shield my face and started walking again knowing Steve would easily catch up soon enough. I didn't really want that though as I knew I would turn into a blabbering mess, I really liked the guy, a lot but I was way too shy and nervous to ever do anything about it. I didn't want to be turned down, I had to work with him I didn't want to make things awkward. As I carried on walking I could hear the fast footsteps approaching, I kept my head down hoping he wouldn't realise it was me. "didn't think you would be out this early" Steve says as he slows down to a walk, "oh hey Steve didn't see you there" I say hoping my scarf was hiding my blush "uh yeah for some reason I woke up super early so decided to get some fresh air and a coffee" I say. "yeah, I get that, maybe try running, its actually pretty nice" Steve offers, I shake my head "no I'm fine trust me this is a rare occasion I usually don't like being up this early" I laugh. "yeah I think most of the team are like that, it is peaceful at this time of day though" Steve says glancing around at the empty park, "can't argue with that, have you ever seen the sun rise from the top of the tower?" I ask him. "no I'm usually out running then" he says, "well you sure see it sometime its really beautiful the way the sun bounces off all the building creating this orange glow, sunset is pretty similar but in the same way they're nothing alike" I say picturing it in my head "yeah sounds pretty amazing, thought you didn't get up early though" Steve smirks, "this is when I do wake up early but can't be bothered to walk here" I laugh. "fair enough I'll have to see it sometime" he smiles, "yeah you should" I agree smiling back up at him. We continue smiling at each other until I realise we hadn't said anything, I clear my throat looking down at my drink "I think I'm gonna head back to the tower" I say pointing in the direction I would be going in "oh okay yeah that's cool I er think I'll run a couple more laps, I uh had a late start I'll see you later" Steve says. "see you later" I say walking off out of the park, I glance back around to see Steve begin to run again, before sighing to myself as I walked back alone to the tower.

Steve's pov

I walk into the labs after being summoned by tony "what was so urgent then tony?" I ask him, "ah Steve I need you help with coming up with something" tony says leaving the suit he was working on and walking over to me. "with what exactly?" I ask curious, "a reason to party, I haven't thrown one in a while and I need to keep up my reputation" tony says. I glance over his shoulder at Bruce who just shrugs his shoulders "tony we both know you don't need a reason to throw a party" I sigh, "your right! I'll just have a party, keep Saturday open" he tells me as he types away on his phone "tony that's 2 day away" I tell him "surely you can't put a party together that quickly" I say. Tony points at me "don't underestimate me" he says, "whatever I have stuff to do" I sigh walking back out of the labs. Just like he said tony managed to pull together one of his typical parties in two days, I was leaving my room in a blue shirt and brown jacket sighing to myself as this was never something I was really into. As I walked in I scanned the room and as always it was full of faces I didn't even know, I saw members of the team all talking to each other enjoying all of this. I made my way over to the bar and ordered a drink, I glanced down the bar and spot (Y/N) sat alone on the end. She was sipping at her drink not really looking at anything, I couldn't help but smile at how beautiful she looked, even without all the effort, she looked amazing in trackies. Once I had my drink I made my way over not wanting her to be alone "hey you okay? You look a bit lonely" I say sitting down next to her. "oh hey, yeah this isn't really my scene, I prefer the after party bit you know when its just us lot talking and drinking" she explains, "yeah I prefer that bit too" I agree. "exactly but we have to go through this bit first" (Y/N) says gesturing to the party around us, "yeah hopefully people aren't here for long so that bit comes faster" I agree. (Y/N) smiles up at me "we could still have fun beforehand right though" I offer, "yeah I guess" (Y/N) agrees "what should we do?" she asks. I shrug my shoulders "uh I don't know how about we just chat like we normally do but with just the addition on alcohol" I suggest, (Y/N) laughs "yeah sound good, replacing the coffee with alcohol, I like the sound of that" she smiles. We spend the next couple of hours just talking and it was nice, I really did like spending time with (Y/N) and if I'm honest I did really like her too but I don't think I could ever be brave enough to ask her out. "oh my god (Y/N) there you are I didn't think you came" Nat says coming over, "yeah I've been here this entire time" (Y/N) laughs, "oh come on, come dance with me and Maria!" Nat says pulling on (Y/N)'s arm. She looks over at me "its fine go have fun" I smile, "thanks Steve I'll talk to you later" she smiles as he get pulled away. I sigh smiling as I watch her go enjoy herself with the girls, I take another sip of my beer when someone approaches me from behind. "captain you're being oddly quiet tonight" thor says leaning up again the bar with his own beer, "yeah well Sam couldn't make it, he's uh busy plus I've just been talking to (Y/N)" I tell him. Thor raises a brow at me "you two seem very close, do you have feelings for her, I think you would make a fine couple" thor says, I smile slightly "I don't know, I don't think I would ever be brave enough" I sigh. thor smiles "I've seen you take on multiple villains without batting an eye, you are a brave man you can do this" thor says, I shake my head "yeah well beating up bad guys is a bit different" I sigh. "you just need some confidence that's all here try this" thor says pulling out a small flask, "what is that?" I ask as he pour it into my drink "Asgardian liquor, more powerful than this mortal stuff may help" he says. I take a quick sniff of it wondering whether this was just an elaborate plan to see if the team could get me drunk, "I promise it isn't poison" thor says "now come on join the team, stop sulking in the corner" he says. "I wasn't sulking" I mutter as I follow him over to the team, glancing over at (Y/N) as I passed.
