Divided

I was sat bored out of my mind "(Y/N) its your go" vision says gesturing the chess board between us "vision I don't get this game its boring" I complain. "yes I guess it is a bit complicated for a 5 year old" vision says rubbing his chin "what game would you like to play?" he asks, I shrug my shoulders "I dunno, when is mommy and daddy back?" I ask him hoping it was soon. "i don't know sorry soon hopefully" he says, "can I go play in my room?" I ask him hopefully, "yeah go ahead" he tells me. I quickly get up and head out but instead of going to my room I went into tony's lab instead, I wasn't really supposed to be in here on my own but I needed to know where the team was. "Friday?" I ask, "miss rogers you aren't supposed to be in here" Friday tells me, "I know but vision sent me, he wants to know where the team are" I lie. "they just got back on the jet they should be home soon, do you want me to contact your parents?" Friday asks, "no just tell me when they get home" I tell her. "of course miss, vision is coming this way so I would head out before he catches you" Friday tells me, "thanks Friday" I smirk sneaking back out of the lab and into my room. What seemed like hours later I heard Friday telling me that the team were finally back, I instantly dropped my stuff and ran out to see them. I could see my dad stood talking to uncle Sam, he had his back to me so I ran over and instantly wrapped my arms around him. "whoa hey they little one" he chuckles, "I'll talk to you later Steve" Sam smiles walking off. "where's mom?" I ask him as he picks me up, "talking to auntie Wanda, so what did you do with vision then?" he asks me. "it was so boring he kept on trying to teach me chess" I complain making Steve chuckle, "yeah it doesn't sound very interesting what about tony?" Steve asks. "he hasn't come back yet why?" I ask him, "nothing just wondering, come on lets get mommy" Steve smiles putting me back down and holding my hand. As we walked onto the jet I saw mom and Wanda talking in hushed toned, both of them stopping when they saw us. "there's my mini me, you weren't trouble were you" Nat smirks hugging me, "only a little" I whisper, "wouldn't expect any less" she smiles. "hey (Y/N)" Wanda smiles standing up from her seat, "hi auntie Wanda are you okay?" I ask noticing she didn't look happy. She nods her head "I'm fine, thanks Nat I'll talk to you later" Wanda says quickly leaving the jet, I notice as mom and dad exchange a look. "come on let head inside" Nat says, "can I carry the shield?" I ask Steve, "sure thing, let me know if it gets to heavy" Steve smile passing me the shield helping me hold it ever so slightly.

A couple days later I was in my room getting ready for bed when I heard shouting, curiosity won out and I followed the noise. I noticed it got louder and lounder the closer I got to my parents room, the door was open ever so slightly allowing me to peak in without being seen. I could see my mom and dad stood at opposite sides of the room visibly angry at each other, "Steve if you don't sign it doesn't just tear up the team it tears up our family!" Nat yells. "Nat this isn't going to work, government regimes never do, you should know that after shield!" Steve argues back "something big is going to happen and people will die because they won't send us in" he continues. "Steve right now that's it's the best option we have! At least we'll have some control!" Nat argues, "no we won't Nat this wont work, it will only cause more problems" Steve shouts. "Steve stop for a moment and think of your daughter, our daughter if you don't sign and continue to fight you will be a criminal how the hell do you think that's going to affect her!" Nat yells, "you know what this is the last thing I need right now" Steve sighs. I see him walking towards the door so I quickly hide hoping he wouldn't see me, I watch as he storms out of the door and towards the gym. Nat follows him out slightly pausing at the door "(Y/N) come here" she sighs, I get up from my hiding space slowly "sorry mommy I was eavesdropping on purpose" I apologise. "its okay just come here" she says opening out her arms to me, I walk over and hug her. "why were you fighting?" I ask her, she sighs deeply before answering "because they are these papers we have to sign and daddy won't sign them so he can't be an avenger anymore" she explains. "but he can't do that he has to be an avenger and save us" I say shaking my head "I know sweetie I think he's just upset at the moment he'll come around" Nat sighs. I nod my head "go on back to bed, I'll see you in the morning" she sighs kissing the top of my head, I give her another hug and start heading in the direction of my room only to turn around and head to the gym when she wasn't looking. When I got to the gym I found Steve punching away at a bag, I watched as he split the current one, sighing to himself he unhooks it and gets the next one ready. "why won't you sign" I say getting his attention, he looks over at me confused "(Y/N) you should be in bed" he tells me. "why wont you sign, you need to be an avenger" I say ignoring him comment, "because its just not right, and I need to do the right thing" he tell me walking over to me. "but what about us as a family will you have to leave?" I ask him getting upset at the thought, I take his silence as my answer "you can't do that because we're a family and family stick together no matter what" I say tears starting to stream down my face. "(Y/N) that isn't going to happen" Steve says bending down in front of me, "yes it is I heard mommy say it, you're tearing this family apart!" I yell at him trying to push him away for me but he stops me. "no I'm not (Y/N) stop, nothing is going to tear us apart" he tell me, "sign the papers then" I say, he shakes his head at me "I can't im sorry" he sighs. I push him away from me and run out of the gym and back to my room "(Y/N) wait" Steve calls after me but I slam and lock my door before he reaches it. "(Y/N) please open up" he sighs, "no go away, I don't want to talk to you" I tell him. "look (Y/N) I promise I won't let anything come between me and you, nothing on earth could keep me from you" Steve sighs, I don't say anything back and turn my back to the door. I hear him sigh "goodnight (Y/N), sleep well" he says before leaving.

Everything had gone wrong I was woken up to Maria in my room, "(Y/N) come on you need to come with me" she says as I get up from my bed. "what's going on?" I ask noticing the fire outside, "I'm going to look after you until mommy comes back" Maria says taking my hand and leading me out of my room. "what about daddy?" I ask her, "he should be back soon hopefully" she tells me. as we head through the compound I notice a fight going on between Clint and vision "why are they fighting?" I ask stopping in my tracks "its nothing to worry about lets go its late" Maria says pulling me to carry on. "Maria what is going on, everyone seems angry" I ask her when we get to her apartment, "nobody's angry at each other, everyone argues it will be okay don't worry now head to bed" Maria says. I knew she wasn't telling me everything just because I was young, but if it was about my family and my parents I needed to know. Just as she was about to shut the door I spoke up "are my parents fighting?" I ask her, she pauses not knowing how to answer "your mommy and daddy love each other very much this won't split them I promise" Maria says. the next day I was determined to find out more so while Maria wasn't looking I managed to get her phone and unlock it. I instantly went to the news and saw countless articles about everyone fighting, the thing that came up most was how my dad was all to blame for it. I put the phone down instantly, he had broken his promise and now he couldn't come back, he had split up the family. A few days later there was a knock on the door and I was so happy for it to be my mom, I instantly ran into her embrace bursting into tears. "hey its going to be okay, I promise" she says soothingly, "no its not dad's a criminal he broke up the family just like he promised he wouldn't" I cry shaking my head. "he still loves you though I promise, we'll be back together eventually, I miss him too" she says sadly, "come lets go home, we'll figure this out I promise" she says taking my hand. "thanks Maria for looking after her" Nat says as we leave, when we got back to the compound it was oddly quiet "where is everyone?" I ask. "rhodey isn't very well, tony is back at the tower, vision is here somewhere and I'm not sure where everyone else is" Nat sighs, "so its just us" I say, "just us" Nat sighs.

It had been nearly a month now, tony was back at the compound but it still felt empty without anyone else there. "(Y/N) we're going on a trip?" Nat says walking into my room, "where to?" I ask, "it's a surprise now come on we don't want to be late" Nat tells me leading me out to the jet. After what seemed like hours later I decided to ask whether we were nearly there or not "how close are we?" I ask, "not sure hopefully soon" Nat says looking over the control of the jet "do you not know where we're going?" I ask her "not exactly I have co-ordinates and that's it" Nat sighs. Once we finally landed I was about to follow Nat out of the jet but she stops me "wait here for a moment just to be safe" Nat says slowly walking out of the jet. "okay (Y/N) come on out" she calls out, I walk out of the jet to see Nat wasn't alone and that Steve was stood with her. "dad?" I ask not taking another step forward, "I know you aren't happy with me right now but I'm so sorry and I won't let it happen again" Steve apologises taking a step towards me. "but you're a criminal" I say keeping the distance, I wanted to trust him but I wasn't sure I didn't want to get hurt. "I know but I wont let that stop me from seeing you, just like I promised" Steve says "I'm really sorry I really am, I just want my girls back with me" he continues. "you promise?" I ask him, "I pinky promise" he says with a smile, I couldn't help but smile slightly as I linked my pinky with his. He then pulled me in for a hug that I had missed so much, "im sorry I shouted at you" I apologise, "you have nothing to apologise for I did everything wrong I risked not ever seeing you again" Steve says hugging me tighter. "but what happens now you can't come home tony won't let you" I realise, "its fine you guys are staying with me, I have someone to introduce you to" Steve smiles standing up and picking me up. "who is it?" I ask him, "your uncle Bucky now come on some people have missed you" he smiles.
