qq sat in her classroom, reading yet another romance novel. it seemed as if happily ever after only took place in books; the real world was cruel and only promised people lives of suffering. if only she could be like the protagonists of these hopeless love stories, finding her own happily ever after.

in fact, she did like someone. this particular someone was notriously known as the 'king of the court'. he currently played setter for the boys volleyball team, replacing the third year setter. his name? kageyama tobio.

she heard girls from other classes cooing over him. anyway, wasn't there a goddess-like third year manager for the team, as well as a pretty cute first year manager? who was she kidding?

she shut her book and leaned her head against her folded arms propped up on the desk. screw the real world, time to delve into the world of dreams. until the first bell rings.

cca practice had ended slightly earlier than the usual time. happily, she packed her things up and grabbed her bag. she and van walked down the stairs together and past the gym. at that precise moment, tsukishima and yamaguchi emerged from the entrance. quickly, she shoved van at him.

"go for it!" she giggled as her friend and the blonde shot her a look with pink cheeks.

she and yamaguchi hung back for a bit as the two salty first years walked off.

"i'll take my leave too, then," yamaguchi said as he waved, "bye qq!"

"bye yams," she said with a little wave.

at that moment, the door opened again to reveal a certain milk-drinking ravenette. by his side was yachi, clutching onto her bag strap. the two walked away from the exit and towards her.

"h-hey," qq said as she gave a little wave, "it's a little late and i need to go home quickly, so i'll be going first! not like i'd want to spoil your date or anything!"

she was about to take off running, no, sprinting, when yachi said, "chotto, qq-san!"

the dark-haired girl was about to punch herself for turning around to say, "yeah?"

"kageyama wants to talk to you," the blonde said, "i'll leave you two to it! bye bye!"

she rushed off quickly, leaving the two behind. qq's brain cogs were whirring; what should she say for having yachi, who was probably already dating him, run off?

"u-um, kags, i... uh, sorry for having yachi to leave you behind," she said, "i know you two were probably planning to do something—"

he shook his head, cutting her off. she glanced up at him to see his cheeks dusted in red. why was he... blushing?

"h-hey, are you okay?" she said, "your face is really red. do you have a fever?"

he shook his head vigourously. it was now or never. he took a deep breath.

"qq, i've really really really really liked you since i don't know when and i don't know if you feel the same way but please go out with me!" he managed to say as he bowed.

silence.

"i... like you too," she managed to whisper.

he stood back up and said awkwardly, "so... is that a yes?"

she smiled, "if you want it to be."

his eyes sparkled as his lips were unsure of staying in their straight line or to smile.

"are you smiling?" she asked curiously.

"no! i'm not! dumbass!"
