"hey, your boyfriend just looked at us," [r/b/n] teased, earning a punch from qq as she glanced over to where kageyama was standing.

"his back is facing us, dumbass," qq said as she gave him a pointed look, "and anyway, he's not my boyfriend."

"but you like him," [r/b/n] said, making kissy noises.

"shut up, you asshole," qq said.

"when are you confessing to him?" he asked, hands crossed, "watching you two lovebirds flirt all day is getting really tiring."

"well, i'm sorry he probably doesn't like me back," she huffed, copying his stance, "besides, he might be gay for shouyou."

"you really are dense, you know," he said with a slight head shake.

qq walked along the hallways after class, hair whipping along the breeze. not really looking where she was going, she walked right smack into someone's back. and it wasn't just anyone's back.

it was kageyama.

he turned around in surprise, glancing down at the much shorter female.

"o-oh, hey, tobio-chan," she said, keeping a calm demeanour, "are you walking home?"

he managed not to die as his first name rolled off her tongue so effortlessly, along with the suffix that followed.

"yeah," he said with a calm nod, "there's no practice today."

"i'll walk with you then," she said casually, walking past him.

his face had turned pink. bless the good lord and saviour, what had he done to deserve walking home with her?

he quickened his steps, catching up to her. her earpieces were plugged in, but she could hear him perfectly well.

"so, tobio-chan," she said, sneaking a little glance at him, "is there anyone you like?"

"w-what?!" he shrieked, glancing back at her.

a grin was spread out on her face as she exclaimed, "ha! i knew it! your face said it all!"

his face turned bright red. this was basically confirmation that 1. she didn't like him, and 2. she liked the other guy. way to go, kageyama!

"who is it?" she asked excitedly, eyes sparkling as she tugged onto his arm.

"i don't want to say," he muttered, slight irritation laced in his voice.

"is it shouyou?" she asked, literally bouncing on her heels now as she let go of him.

"what the hell?! no!" he yelled, disgust written all over his face, "i'm straight!"

"then... is it yachi?" she asked, excitement extinguished.

he shook his head.

"who is it then?" she whined, "tell meeee!!"

"it's... a girl," he answered.

"i thought your potential love interest was volleyball," she joked, "and you would be volleyball-sexual."

"hell no," he huffed, "anyway, the thing is, i think the girl likes someone else."

"why don't you try to win her over?" she asked, her heart dying a little, "sure, she may like someone else, but that doesn't mean you can give up!"

he stopped in his tracks. she stopped abruptly as well. he turned to face her.

"ja... will you be mine?" he whispered.

her face flushed red as she said, "what?"

he shut his eyes tightly as he said in a barely audible voice, "i've loved you for a long time. will you be mine?"

the next thing he knew, a pair of arms were wrapped around his torso, with something pressed against his body. he opened his eyes and glanced down to see her eyes looking up at him, a grin on her lips.

"zutto kimi ga suki datta," she said as a red hue dusted her cheeks.

[ zutto kimi ga suki datta = i have always loved you ]

she buried her face in his chest as she whispered, "suki dayo, tobio-chan."

as a small grin crept onto his normally stoic face, he wrapped his arms around her small frame.

it was worth holding on to the hope of her liking him back all this time after all.
