qq and kageyama were good friends. hell, they could call themselves best friends. they knew everything about each other, including their flaws. however, they never used them against each other.

through their friendship, kageyama harboured feelings for the short brunette. though she might not be considered pretty in everyone else's eyes, she was considered perfect in his.

he loved everything about her. how she talked, walked, acted, swore and all her imperfections. he loved her for being her.

and he thought she was out of his league.

unfortunately, she had her eyes set on someone else. someone that wasn't him; someone that was completely different.

he wasn't an athletic guy, we don't need to say if he even played a sport. he played [random instrument], and he was musically inclined. he was gentle and sweet; he never called anyone names. in addition, he was academically smart.

qq had asked kageyama how she should confess. of course, he had to be a supportive friend and offer advice.

"do you think he will accept?" she asked as she prepped herself for the confession.

"he'd be an asshole if he doesn't," was kageyama's reply.

she laughed.

"god, tobio-chan," she snickered, before calming herself down, "arigatou."

"modainai," he muttered.

"you're the best friend i could ever ask for," she said, giving him a squeeze on the arm before scurrying off to find her crush.

he watched her from a safe distance while hiding.

"i-i really like you!" she said as she gave a bow, hair sweeping in front of her face to cover her reddening cheeks, "please go out with me!"

the boy's cheeks turned pink as he said, "really? because i like you too."

she stood back up, smile back in place.

he opened his arms out, and qq jumped into them. his arms closed, holding her in a warm embrace.

kageyama's heart broke.

he could have been the one who was then holding her.

he could have been the one getting confessed to.

he might have stood a chance if he confessed.

far from here with more room to fly

kageyama turned his back against them and let his tears fall. he sank to his feet, burying his face in his arms.

she had been the boat to his sea, the star to his sky.

and now she had sailed far away from him, beyond the horizon, never to return.
