So Happy...

writing is life

and I have been doing so much writing

so I am feeling absurdly happy

and wriggly

and like I wish I could share all this writing with you

So I will just share one of my favourite excerpts that I wrote yesterday.

(Unnamed, book 5 of Ceristen series)

---The fight suddenly ended as Jedediah Crayes made some indiscernible move and slipped his blade up against Douglas' chest. They remained there a moment, tense and silent, and then Jedediah Crayes stepped back.

"Hopeless," he said blackly, withdrawing his blade and sending it into its sheath with a click. "I hope you haven't been passing yourself off as my student."

Douglas shrugged, panting, his smile as good-natured as ever.

Jedediah Crayes glowered at him. "I'd be embarrassed to meet you anywhere. What do you think that last few minutes was? Rolling on the green hills under the sun? Were you even trying to defend yourself? And I suppose you've been forgetting to sharpen your sword."

"Oh no," Douglas assured him, sitting down next to Derek. His dark, tangled hair was hanging down almost into his eyes, black with sweat.

"Huh," Jedediah Crayes grunted, finding his attack blunted. He sat down as well, his narrow dark eyes gazing keenly into the fire.

"When do you think we will reach Orden?" Douglas asked him softly. His eyes stirred with eagerness.

"Huh," Jedediah Crayes grunted again, frowning as he reckoned up the days. "A fortnight and two, maybe. Maybe a fortnight or less. Hard to say how the spring rains will slow our pace."

"A fortnight," repeated Douglas, slowly. He glanced at Derek, gladness and excitement kindling in his face.

They were so close to home.
