HAPPY HALLOWEEN! It's OFFICIALLY Day SIXTEEN of SHIPPING HELL!!
To Sebastian, it was odd that Jim didn't like Halloween. Even odder, was the lengths the man downright despised the holiday. After all, this is the most terrifying man in London. Why on earth would he dislike a Holliday practically created for him? Sebastian would never know.
On the other hand, Jim couldn't see why Sebastian did like the Holliday. Maybe it was because his parents hadn't been like Jim's. He knew Sebastian's father would use any excuse to 'toughen him up, some,' but he'd still had his mum. And his father had boundaries.
Jim couldn't quite remember how it had happened, but he remembered how it was his fault. He was three years old, and they'd headed home early because he'd thrown a tantrum. His father had been furious with him, for making him look a fool. This was the only time Jim remembered her getting in between them when his da was going to give Jim a right beating. He'd hit them both before, it was just something that happened. It was natural, typical. But he hadn't stopped. He'd kept going. And going. Until she was so bloodied and bruised that Jim couldn't recognize her. He'd watched it, sitting there in utter horror. He'd curled up with her to fall asleep that night, and in the morning, they'd taken her body from the house.
Every Halloween after that seemed to be trying to work up to that. Kids would beat him, his father would get out the belt for no reason, at all.
It was pure horror, and not the kind you got from any scary movie.
He never thought Halloween could ever hurt as much as it did that first bad one that went awry. He just didn't think it was possible. But he'd never thought he'd fall in love, either. He never thought that watching the excitement leave a pair of sparkling icicle eyes would be the worst pain he could ever experience. He never thought that Sebastian Moran would change him that much- He never thought he'd be dressing up for Halloween without wanting to die.
He'd really only had to put on a fedora and grab the spray painted nerf gun Sebastian had gotten him, but it still felt like a lot of work. Maybe it was simply the dread and bad memories, forcing him to drag their weight as he prepared for the holiday. But, he did manage to "put on" his costume, despite not telling Sebastian. He decided it'd be better as a surprise, anyways.
Jim counted out the seconds it took Sebastian after he knocked on the door. Listened for the footsteps of a soldier's march, worn from years out of service, but still strong. Calculated. He watched the sniper's face go from disappointed to overjoyed, to... confusion.
"W-What? I thought you hated Halloween..?" He looked Jim over a few times, not sure if this was his imagination or actually happening.
"Halloweens as a kid, for me, were never good... but I figured disappointing you was worse." He admitted quietly, a small twinkle in his eyes. Sebastian had seen a lot cross over Jim's eyes: disdain, hatred, lust, mania, malice- but this was different entirely. It was like a little candle had been lit behind Jim's eyes, again. One that had burned out so long ago, that he'd forgot it had existed in the first place. But here it was... just for Sebastian.
He grinned like an idiot, pulling Jim in for a kiss by his tie, crashing their lips together without any hesitation. Jim couldn't help but smile at his excitement.
"Let me go get dressed- then we can head out!" Sebastian practically sprinted to the closet for his costume, and the moment he came out, Jim knew it'd been worth it.
Sebastian hated suits- especially when paired with a tie. It was treat enough to see him in a nice button-up and plain slacks. But this- this was something like what Jim would wear. Full collar, slacks, pressed suit jacket, and a nice tie. Then, just like his lover, he dropped a matching fedora on his head.
"I don't know, Boss- we sure we're not from the mob?" He teased, putting on a bad, unplaceable accent. Jim could only laugh.
"I'd drop everything and join the mob if I could see you in that, everyday." Jim decided, grinning at him.
"Wait until you see me out of it." He winked, sending him an air kiss. And that was the moment.
The exact moment Jim knew Sebastian was worth having to face his past. That stupid grin, and those sparkling eyes. He'd go any distance Sebastian needed him to, even if it killed him. He was worth the pain.
Even if he was a pain in Jim's arse, sometimes.
