You were terrified. You had no clue how your boyfriend would react to the news, and honestly, you weren't sure you wanted to. Carrying the small toddler into the foyer, you looked around for Jim. Today was your test. If all things went well and good, you'd tell him that day. Otherwise, you'd probably hold off for awhile. Setting Owen down to play, you ruffled his hair, causing giggles to emerge for his tiny mouth. He was absolutely adorable. Jim's brother, Richard, had asked you both to babysit, and you readily agreed. This allowed you to put your parenting skills, and Jim's child-okayness to the test. Living with Jim was always like a daydream, a fantasy, but you couldn't expect that to last forever without some sort of repercussion, could you? Of course not.
"I'm going to go make lunch, stay here, okay?" You instructed the four year old. Owen was incredibly well behaved, especially for his age. Not only that, he was absolutely adorable. His head bobbed up and down, signaling he was fine with what your were proposing. His thick black hair was reminiscent of both his father, and his father's twin, Jim. It was quite adorable, really. How could Jim say 'no' to someone who looked so much like him? He flashed you a winning smile, a tooth near the corner of the left side of his mouth missing. Leaving nothing more than a gaping hole. You kissed the little one's forehead, and strode to the kitchen, setting up a plate with left over spaghetti, some goldfish, and a small box of apple juice, all things his father left for him.
"Soup's on!" You called, hearing the soft patter of tiny feet racing to get his food. He began eating immediately, while you went back to where he was playing to clean up. Hearing the soft click of the door, knowing Jim was home, you smiled. Nervous as it may have been, you smiled. You stood up, placing the toy bucket on the table as you did so.
"Love, how was your day?" He wrapped his arms around your waist, burying his head into the side of your neck, h/c hair tickling his cheeks and neck.
"It was good, you should go-" you were cut off by the excited boy, not that you minded.
"Uncle Jim!" Huh. He knew the twins apart better than you did. You laughed, and began to turn around, not noticing how stiff Jim's form had become.
"The hell, y/n? What's Owen doing here!?" He hissed dramatically, causing you to do a double take. He wasn't seriously mad at you for babysitting? That was absurd.
"Uh, I'm babysitting. Richard asked us last week, remember?" You turned fully around, encasing the toddler in your arms as you lifted him off the ground, seeing as Jim had failed to do so. The boy reached for Jim, who glared in response, further causing the boy to cling to you in fright.
"Uh," he mocked theatrically, "Yeah, I do. I also remember saying 'NO'!" He child dig into your embrace, fear filling him at Jim's harshness.
"Jim!" You warned calmly, lips pursing, "He's going home soon, we can talk about this later! You're scaring him!" You were scared more than anything at that moment. You could handle an angry Jim, that was a god-given talent, but you had other things to worry about.
"Fine!" He hissed, storming off to his office or something. You rubbed small circles into Owen's back, it equally calming you both. If Jim was so pissed about Owen staying here for a couple hours, what would he say to a child for eighteen years? No. that's what he would say. No, get out or get rid of it. Neither was an option you liked, but you sure as hell weren't getting rid of your own child. Screw Jim. Sebastian would probably be the first Jim would go to, when trying to bring you home. But, it was the simplest thing ever to start going by your given name, again. Maybe. The doorbell rung, the swift sounds of Johann Sebastian Bach filling the air. You tried to think over your plan as you helped Owen gather his things. Opening the door to reveal Richard, who instantly lifted his son high into the air, the toddler giggling the entire way.
"Daddy?" Owen seemingly whispered, and suddenly you were afraid. What if you had messed up? You liked Richard, he was a pretty stand up guy, and Owen was absolutely amazing! Plus, you'd probably need his help.
"Yeah, bud?" You held Owen's bags with a death grip, afraid of his answer. Jim, was everything you wanted, and more. He loved you to the stars and back, and you, more. But you definitely wouldn't give up your child. Not even for Jim Moriarty.
"Why does uncle Jim hate me?" Owen seemed to be fighting back tears, and you looked at Richard apologetically. He seemed to shrug it off, smiling softly at you.
"It isn't you, O. He doesn't like kids in general, never has. I'm surprised he let aunt Y/n babysit you in the first place!" A-Aunt y/n? You and Jim were definitely not married, and you sure as hell weren't related to him in any way.
"Aunt?" You questioned, voice smaller than a tack. Richard looked at you like you were crazy. His eyebrows laced together, yet somehow one raised in a questioning motion.
"Well, yeah. Might as well start him now, it's obvious Jim loves you. I'd be surprised if he didn't propose within the year." He said it so simply. So- nonchalant. He didn't know of your plan to leave, the plan that formed only minutes ago. You didn't have the heart to fight with him. You simply put on a blush and smiled at him, waving goodbye despite how your heart broke as Owen called 'Goodbye Auntie!' after you. You turned inside, leaning on the door for support. It was now or never. Jim would be in his office, and with how mad he was, that gave you an hour to pack. Unlike Jim, you weren't a material person, and packed only the necessities, leaving anything he gave you (which was most of your possessions), and noticed you had about ten minutes until it was time to go. Quickly, you scribbled down a note to say goodbye, and left it on the night stand. Your bag in tow, you called for a cab, sitting right outside of the flat. It only took three minutes before one picked you up, and like that, you were gone.
