I was awkwardly standing in the entrance to the ice rink. Yuri ssid he would meet me there, and go show me around the city. It was the weekend, so I wasn't in much of a rush. But that didn't mean my anxiety wasn't.
"Aki," Yuri made his presence know by shouting my name. "You're here early," he told me. He was a bit sweaty and was breathing heavily. He must have been finishing up practice.
"Sorry, I wanted to get our of the house," I told him, "Nagisa has been playing the Attack on Titan theme song over and over again for the past day. You can only hear it so many tome before wanting to kill that kid."
"Its fine, let me change and we can get going," he told me. He was about to turn around and walk away, but someone popped up from behind him. She had short red hair and a teasing smirk. I reconized her as Mila, the female skater coached by Yakov.
"Is this your girlfriend Yura?" she asked. Wrapping an arm aourn his shoulder. He made a pouty face, and was blushing.
"Why dose everyone think we're dating?" he snapped, pushing Mila off of him. He noticed how ridged I got, form being around a new person. "This is Aki, this is Mila," he introduced the two of us. "I met Aki in Japan, she's the Piggy's sister."
"Then what are you doing in Russia?" Mila asked, "Did you runa away to be with Yuri?" She tried twasing the two of us, annoying us both.
"I'm going to college," I told her, angry that people once again think I'm younger than I am. But honestly there is no way to prove other wise. Yuri was comforted but the fact I could talk to Mila.
"I'm going to go change," Yuri said, trying to sound annoued. I rolled my eyes as he walked away.
"So you're the girl he's been looking up," Mila commented. I tilted my head in confusion. "The three time National female champion from Japan. Not to mention a pretty quality meme."
"Yeah that's me," I sighed, thinking of how he saw all those stupid hairstyles I had. "And just to set it straight, I've never seen that show. I prefer to watch anime." She laughed at that comment. It eased me out of my anxiety a bit.
"So, you're competing in the Grand Prix?" she asked. I nodded. "Well we be goinf againsr each other." we didn't notice the othwr guy walking up to us.
"Mila, who is this?" he asked, scarying me out of my skin. I was slowly trying to back away from the small crowd of people around me.
"This is Yura's friend, Aki" Mail said in a single song voice, "She's the Japanese Yuri's sister, and she's a skater too."
"Hey, idiots!" Yuri yelled at them. He chanhed really quickly, "What do you think you're doing?" The both let our a sigh as Yuri approached.
"We just wanted to know rhe only person you've ever called a friend," Georgi said. I gasped in a bit of awe and happiness.
"Am I your only friend?" I teased him. He glared at me, it was ineffectice. "Was little Yurio all.lonely before I came along?"
"You can shut up," he hissed, gettinf embarrassed, "And why did you need to say that, she already has enough to tweak me about."
"Awe please," I scoffed, "If you couldn't Handel my teasing we wouldn't be friemds. Honestly I don't blame you for being antisocial. People suck." We nodded in agreement. The two other Russians were sorta just watcbong our interactions. Unsure how to process it all.
"What are you all doing here?" another voice yelled. Georgi stopped and turned to where it was. Walking up to is was an old man and my ballet instructor. Before they could fully get there I grabbed Yuri's wrist and pulled him out of the rink, talking to enough new people for one day.
"I never expected for you to do that,* he said, adjisting the Tripp of our hands, so he could leade around easier.
"Running is always an option,"I told him in a laugh, "But more importantly running and screaming is always an option." Giving out terrible advise is just another perk of being me. We wallked all around the city, with me acting like a stereotypical tourist at times. We managed to find ourselves in a small at the end of the night.
"Yuri," I called to him, hopping our from around a stand, "Dose this make me look cute?" I asked. I had found a headband with cat ears on it, and was putting my hands up in the typical cat girl pose. He just froze and starrd at me. I forgot his fans wore cat ears, he was probably suffering from some PTSD. "Sorry, didn't mean to remind you of Yuri's devils." I said, playing on the name. He snicker a little.
"So you're call the Japanese Raui," he commented on my dakting title, like he was the Russian Ice Tigger.
"Yeah, it means lightning storm, or thunderstorm," I told him with a shrug, "I actually prefer one of Naomi's knicknames over that one..." I continued looking through the hair accessories. My hair was longer now, and I wanted to do something with it.
"What is it?" he asked, staribg at me, sending a little shiver through my body.
"Kaminari," I told him, "It's the Japanese goddess of lightning." He suddenly poked my face. I turned to look at him with a questioning eyebrow.
"You're skin had more color,* he told me, "You look differebr from when I lefr Japan. You're hair is longer, your skin has more color, and you don't look as thin. You're dimeaner is also more active, and happy. Its a good change." He just got all emotional on me. I got emotional too, and gave him a hug. He pried me off him. "Why did you do that?" he hissed.
We continued shopping. I had only bought one thing. It was for Yuri. I found a leather jacket with tiger print accents. I just felt like he would want it, and I saw him eyeing it. "You're going to Japan in a couple days right?" he asked as we wrre on our way back, "For competitions?"
"Yup," I nodded as I walked along. We weren't holding hands. I sorta missed it, but I didn't want him to feel obligated to.
"Well... ummmm..." he stopped walking, and awkwardly snorted the back of his neck. "Here," get handed me the small plastic bag he had been carrying since we left the store. I giggled at his tsundereness as I took the bag from him.
Inside was a large velvet box. I pulled it out and flipped it open. There was a simple necklace and a silver chain with a single charm. It was a silver lightning bolt studed with small clear gems. "It's beautiful," I told hom, attemptinf to get it out of the box. He snickered at my attempts and took it from me.
"It's to remind you during competitions that I'm there with you, even if not in person," he told me. He was behind me, putting the necklace on me. I looked down at the necklace, and vowed never told take it off.
