"Sorry I'm late," I told Naomi as is strapped on my skates.
"Its fine, you need to start getting more sleep," she told me, "There are actually I few things I have been thinking about. First, don't do any quads, they aren't necessary in female skating, and I don't want you to accidentally mess up." She wasn't even aware I couldn't do quads anymore. "Second, I get we are doibg it your way, but I might need to tweek what you do a bit, you do tend to leave out spins, or fill it up with too many jumps, and it still needs enough points to be able to be used in competition."
"I can understand that," I agreed, "Just as long as it's fundamentally me I am alright with it." We walked over to the rink, and she took my cane from me. Its become a habit for me to use it at this point. "On, I also sent you links to the four songs I narrowed it down to, I'd like to take your opinion into consideration." I told her. I watched my brother practice for a bit before work handed my coach my glasses and put in my headphones to practice myself.
I needed to figure out what I was going to do with the song. I sent it on loop and just moved around the ice, letting f the music encase me. I lostened to every note, every beat, the pitch the tempo. I could play it in my sleep. I was thinking Mandy one part could bd for one part of my skating, and the other part be for abother. But I didn't know how to do that and make it look good.
There was the strategy of pyttinf it to a story and potraying it through the dancing. To me it was like two clahong ideas workibg so well together. I could somehow do that with quick foot movements and simple arms, but that is about the exact same thing I always do.
I could sorta hear the two parts fightibg for dominance, I could pay more attention to certain parts at certain times to show that one is more doninant at the time. The story could then be abput soneone who loves two things so strongly, and gets oulled both way. In the end I could encompass both into the skating, havobg the store show that they ahd learned to bribg both into one. It was just a rough thoughts I had a while to prefect it.
Now the hardest part was trying to figure out were to put in jumps, and combination. I found it easier to fond places for spins rather than jumps. I skated over to where Naomi was. Once I was there I noticed her had headphones in, hopefully listening to my choices. "Whe. were you thibkibg about putting in jump for the short program?" I asked her, hopibg some insight could help me.
"Um mm, sorry Im terrible with music terminology," see warned me before hand, "But when the notes get up as high as other hose, put a jump there. I was never really sure where to put combs though." That actually helped. I could have the higher notes enfesize more on the jumps, while the lower notes I could focus nore on spins, and have fancy foot work through all of it.
Now know what what the song wants me to do, I just need to follow its lead and be myself. I stood on the ice, listen to the song, letting it flow through me. Aftwr listebibg to it once more I closed my eyes and moved. I wasn't the least bit conscience of what I was doing. I was following the music, feeling it, living it. I felt myself spin, and soar through the air. I knew it wouldn't be consistent for a while, so next time I need to pay attention to what I'm doing. I ended with one leg stick behind me and my arms up in the air.
I skated over to the blob that was my coach, letting Yuri do his thing on the ice. "Alright," she said, handing me my glasses, "It's a good start, but need to be refined more," I nodded in agreement, "You could maybe..." She had wrote down what I did, putting the program on paper. She was going through and giving me pointers on how to improve it, and suggestions. I took them into account, and thought of how I could implement them.
"Now for your free skate," she sighed, "I honestly don't know either, but we could narrow it down to two, and prwcrice both. Then we could choose one to be your free skate, and the otber one can be your exposition." She shrugged, wiggling the curser on the laptop she had with her.
I nodded in understanding. I still was too attached to all of them. An idea popped into my head. I noticed the other two were taking a break. "Yuri!" I called out to my brother, skating over to him. "What is one thing people should know about me when they first meet me?" I asked. He seemed to have taken the question into a bit of consideration.
"How you always want to do things your way," he shrugged, "Or maybe you're desire to be different." I mean they were both true. I took that into consideration, and made it over to Naomi.
I had decided on the two songs, "Faster Car, and Fools Gold." I told her my decision. She nodded and we both liked my choices.
