Wednesday evening. The evening that Belle had been invited to something fancy, something that required her to wear a gown.
Belle didn't own any fancy gowns, but Adam said he'd lend her one. She wondered if it was his mother's, or if it would even fit her. Did he just guess that she was his mother's size?
"Please let it fit me," Belle silently pleaded. "I have nothing to wear, I'd look like a maid!"
She thought of how embarrassing it would be for someone to come up to her and mistake her for a maid. Adam would probably regret ever inviting her.
Maurice was excited for his daughter. He didn't know much about this Adam guy, but he thought Belle was tutoring him. He didn't understand why a student would invite their tutor to a party, or why Belle was so excited, but he agreed to go with her anyway.
"We're walking, okay Dad? And Adam said he'd give me the dress there. And...you know I love you Papa, just please, don't embarrass me!" Belle said as she closed the door to their little house.
Maurice did a fake salute and Belle rolled her eyes but smiled.

Adam had set out one of his Mom's old dresses for Belle. It was a sparkly cream ball gown, with light purple roses decorated around it. Lace covered the entire bottom of the dress, which made it sparkle even more.
Adam himself was wearing a blue suit with gold lining, and his family pin. It was just a small teal blue jewel that he pinned to his shirt.
He walked into the ballroom, where his parents were still preparing before the guests started coming in.
"Happy Anniversary Mother. Happy Anniversary Father."
His Mother and Father smiled at him, and gave him a hug before he set down his present for them on the table.
When he was young, his parents were rarely around. The Anniversary party, among few other things, is the only thing Adam remembered enjoying as a family.
"So when is this Belle girl coming? Which kingdom is she from?" his father asked.
Adam chuckled nervously, and he tried to avoid answering the question. His parents weren't serious about the whole arranged marriage thing, but they did assume that every girl he hung out with was a princess.
"She should be coming in about ten minutes or so-want me to check on the cook?" he asked quickly.
"No, it's fine dear. Just look handsome and smile for our guests." The Queen kissed her son on the cheek, and went off to check on other preparations.
Adam busied himself for about ten minutes or so, and he heard the guards open the door. It must be Belle.
He ran towards the door, but it turned out to be two brats from another kingdom. His Father's friend's daughters who were quite obsessed with Adam.
One had curly brown hair and big blue eyes, a slender nose, blossomed lips, and was wearing an expensive jade green looking dress. The other had straight black hair with a perfect set of teeth, and crystal blue eyes as well. She had freckles across the bridge of her nose, and she was dressed in a silky red ball gown.
"Hello Adam! Oh, how I've missed you!" The first one came over to pamper him with kisses.
"Hello, Geneva," Adam said stiffly as her curly hair got in his eyes.
"Me too Adam! Remember me?"
"Who could forget you, Margret?"
The two girls giggled flirtatiously and Adam needed to get them away before Belle appeared.
