I woke to a lonely bed without Lizelle. I wonder where she could have been and if she was okay. I was tired of trying to reach out to her so I decided to give her her space. It was so different waking up alone. Usually I would smell her breakfast or wake up to her kisses beside me. Now she's gone. She will be back but I just don't know when.
I took a day off and put all my clients and appointments on hold. I just wanted to be alone. I watched television all day eating pizza and drinking beer, hoping she would walk in and make everything alright.
Night fell and I thought it would be a good idea to take a drive to the bar. Drinking alone indoors wasn't good for me.
On my way to the bar I may have thought about Lizelle once or twice but my mind started wandering where I would be had I not chased Courtney out of my life. Courtney would never do this to me. This much I know.
My thoughts were so stuck on Courtney that I never saw the truck coming ahead. I was in the wrong lane. One minute it was flashing lights and the next...
It was dark...
I woke up in a hospital. I was in the Intensive Care Unit. I was alone. Nobody was here for me. Suddenly I could sense someone walking in. I knew that scent. It was the only scent I've ever really known.
"Court." I said.
"Hey." she greeted softly.
I couldn't understand. The mother of my child was here but my wife wasn't.
"Where's Lizelle?"
"She didn't make it. She didn't come see you." Courtney said.
"How did you know?" I asked painfully.
"Social media. You know all the news. How are you feeling?" she walked closer to me. This woman was so compassionate.I subconsciously held out my hand to hers.
"I'm in pain" I groaned to her.
I could see the pain in her eyes. There were footsteps and as I looked behind Courtney, it was White. I was glad to see him. Courtney wanted to let go of my hand when she saw White but she didn't. So I let her go. White is my friend and doesn't know about Courtney.
"White." Courtney whispered his name.
That really shocked me.
"You know each other?" I asked.
"On a manner of speaking." she answered, keeping her eyes locked on him.Something was strange here. How did they know each other? How did the mother of my child and my friend know each other? And for some reason they couldn't stop looking at each other like they were guilty of something.
"Excuse me." Courtney said as she walked out of the ward.
White followed her.I was really confused.
Suddenly I heard whispering but it disappeared as they continued walking away from the ward. What was going on here?
I was in pain and the medication was working, so I decided to have a rest and let White sort his issues out with Courtney.
