5:30 came around fast and this time, they both had to wake up. "It's way too early for this," Kristina said, latching onto Parker so she couldn't get up out of the bed. "Can't we just stay under the blankets all day?" The blonde gave her a final loving squeeze before peeling the smaller girl off of her. She certainly had a decent grip.
"Come on love," Parker told her. "We both have to wake up this time. Go hop in the shower if you want. I'll get the coffee ready." Kristina sighed as she sat up. "Fine. But I'm not happy about it. I really just want to go back to sleep." She leaned in for a kiss. "Good morning." She said unenthusiastically. "Good morning to you too, grumpy butt." Parker replied with a smile and a returned kiss. "Now let's get ready. You don't need to be late, and neither do I."
Kristina hopped out of bed and took her shower while Parker went into the kitchen to turn on the coffee pot. By the time she was done, she found a fully dressed Parker in the kitchen messing around with her phone. "Shit," She heard her say and she walked over to find out what happened.
"What's wrong babe?" She asked plopping down on her girlfriends lap. Parker moved her arms and wrapped them around the other girl. "I just checked my voicemail. Apparently my mother has gotten really sick." She said with sad eyes. Kristina pulled the other girl's head to her chest. "What do you mean sick?" She asked. Parker made a gesture with her hands that suggested she didn't know. "I guess she was admitted to the hospital last night. Her results haven't came in yet."
"I tell you what, let me at least get a half day in today. I have to at least show up for a couple hours. After that, we can take a trip okay? Dad's not gonna fire me and it's my store anyway. All of your classes end at noon, so we can still get a plane and make it my nightfall. How does that sound?" Kristina told her, running her fingers through her hair in a soothing manner. Parker nodded.
"Okay," She said. "I don't know how well my boss is going to take it though. I might not be so lucky." She explained. Kristina shrugged her shoulders. "Fuck the dean, he's an asshole. Diane isn't gonna let him fire you though, and neither is my dad. Especially over something like this." She reassured her. "I hope you're right." She said leaning even further into the smaller girl.
"I'm a mobster princess remember? I always get my way." She told her reassuringly. "She's gonna be fine baby." Parker sighed. "I'm pretty worried," She admitted. "I'm gonna book our flights now so we can be ready to go when I clock out. You better call your mother and fill her in so she doesn't think you're running off to Oregon to stay again." Kristina nodded her head in agreement and stood up. "Valid point," She told her, handing her the laptop. "You do this, and I'll do that." She left Parker in the living room to book their flight and went into the bedroom to call her mother.
"Kristina? It's 6 am. What's going on? Are you okay?" She heard Alexis ask upon answering. Kristina shook her head. "I'm fine mom, I just wanted to tell you I'd be going out of town for a couple of days. Parker's mom got put in the hospital last night so we're gonna go check on her to make sure it isn't anything serious." Kristina explained.
"Are you going to come back?" Her mother asked. She could hear the concern in her voice. "Yes," She replied. "Like I said, it's only for a couple of days. I would have given you more notice, but I don't think anyone plans on being hospitalized." Alexis paused for a moment. "I guess you have a point. Just call an check in occasionally. It doesn't have to be me, it can be Sam or Molly. Just let someone know you're alive this time?" Kristina rolled her eyes so hard even she thought they might get stuck in the back of her head. "Tell Parker that I hope her mother recovers soon. Let me know when you make it to the airport." Alexis told her. Kristina agreed. "I'll call you before and after we land. Love you mom." She said. "Love you too honey." Alexis replied and they hung up the phone.
Kristina walked back into the living room, seeing her still distraught girlfriend. "Why don't you just take off today?'' She asked her. Parker shook her head. "It's only my second day, I have to show up. Like you said, my classes end at noon. Our flight leaves at 2:00 by the way." She pointed out. Kristina walked over to her and gave her a gentle kiss. "She's gonna be okay." She reassured her before looking at the clock. It was already 7. "We'd better get going or you're gonna be late. I'll just go in early. Let me call my dad real quick and have him meet me at Perks and you can just drop me off on your way to PCU. It's too cold for you to walk today." She stated matter of factly and Parker nodded her head. "Okay. Are you sure you don't want to drive?" She asked. "I had the car yesterday. You can have it today." She told her as she pulled out her phone and dialed Sonny's number.
"Hey dad. Something has came up, can you meet me at Perks a little early?" She asked him. "I'm already here so I guess that works. What's going on?" He asked her. "I'll explain when I see you. Parker is going to be late for work if we don't leave now. I'll see you in a few minutes?" "Sounds good kid," He replied and hung up. She looked at Parker. "Alright are you ready?" She asked her, handing her the keys. Parker gave a faint smile. "Yeah, let's go get this over with." She told her and they walked out the door.
