Liam decides to take a shower so I isolate myself back in my room. Evan knocks on the door as soon as I sit down.

"Come in," I tell him. He walks in with his phone up to his ear.

"Hold on," he says to whoever is on the other end of the line and covers the microphone. "Is it cool if I bring a friend to the party?"

"Yeah, sure. Which one?" I ask. Since a lot of his friends are at summer session in college, I'm wondering which ones are even left.

"Luke."

"The Australian exchange student?" I ask.

"Yeah. We're going to be roommates in the fall," he explains.

"Oh cool!"

"Yeah. Are you going to run by the mall to get something to wear Friday?"

"Probably not. Why? Are you?" He wouldn't be asking if the answer wasn't yes.

"I was thinking about it. So you don't want anything?"

"No, I'm good. What did you want to get?" I'm really curious now because he doesn't voluntarily go shopping. The last time he bought new clothes was for graduation last month. That was only because my mom made him. He wanted to just wear the suit he wore to prom, which is the same one that he got in the tenth grade.

"Oh, just something to wear," he says, clearly leaving out important details.

"Who are you trying to impress?" I ask half suspiciously.

"No one. Why would I need to impress anyone?"

"Who's the girl?"

"There is no girl," he answers, his face turning red.

"Sure there isn't," I say, raising my eyebrows.

"I'm leaving before you start anything," he states as he turns to leave the room.

"Okay, well have fun!" Just as he leaves, Liam comes in having finished his shower.

"What was that all about?" He asks me.

"Evan has a crush on some girl and I'm going to figure out who it is," I tell him. I smile and stare at him in hopes that he'll figure out that I want his help.

"I'm not helping you. Sorry babe," he says, answering my mental question.

"Why not?" I ask.

"It's not right! If he wanted you to know, he would've told you. Just let him do his thing and you'll find out sooner or later."

"What makes you so sure he'll get the girl?"

"Trust me, it won't be a problem." He seems really sure, but I'm guessing there's something he knows that I don't. I'll leave it alone for now but not forever.

"Okay fine." We go back downstairs to see if anyone else is up yet. I was hoping we could all go out to the store to get food for the party tomorrow. Well, maybe not everyone. That would be a lot of people but who cares? When we get down, everyone's still sleeping. I briefly contemplate waking all of them up, but decide not to. Evan goes to the front door to open it.

"What...?" I start, "oh, hey Luke!" I say to him as he walks in the door.

"Hey Anna, how's it going?" He asks.

"Pretty well, how about yourself?"

"Not bad, who's this?" He asks, pointing to Liam.

"This is Liam," I say.

"Hey Liam, nice to meet you. I'm Luke," he reaches for his hand to shake it.

"Hi there," he says in return.

"And we're leaving," Evan says, dragging Luke right back out the door. Liam and I both shrug and go back into the kitchen with my mom. She's making a list of all the food we need to get at the store. I add a few things to it and she decides it will be easier if she just gets all of the stuff instead of waking everyone else up. Plus, she wants to get out of the house. She leaves, and after an hour, everyone is awake.

"You're all on your own for breakfast," I say, motioning towards the food. Everyone helps themselves. Afterwards the boys leave to play Call of Duty in the game room. I'd play but I don't know how or feel like learning today. Maybe Liam can teach me another time. My phone buzzes.

Brittany: heyyy girly can you help me with setup tomorrow morning? I need the food there early and then help with decorations

Me: yeah, of course! What time?

Brittany: ehhh eightish?

Me: that's fine. Btw Evan is bringing Luke

Brittany: whatever, he's cool

Me: awesome. See ya in the mornin

Brittany: later

My mom comes back around the same time as Evan and Luke do. I help my mom bring the food in, as do the boys, and then they bring in their own bags. They did a LOT of shopping.

"My goodness, what all did you guys get?" I ask, pointing at their mounds of bags.

"Well for starters, we got crazy matching swim trunks," Luke says.

"Because that's not dorky or anything," I add.

"Watch it," Evan warns me. "They're different colors and it's not like you and Cristina have never done the same thing."

"Yeah, but we're girls," I point out.

"Don't pull that one on me. We look cool," he defends himself.

"If you say so."

The rest of the day, I make the food that can be made in advance, like the fruit and cheese platters. I decide to go to bed early because this time of year, eight o'clock is practically the middle of the night. I'll do everyone a favor and avoid my crankiness from sleep deprivation by getting some sleep.
