Emilia

It's Wednesday morning, and I was awoken by the shrill sound of the phone ringing beside me, I groan before rolling over to pick it up. I'd hope it was an important call, or else I would've ripped the telephone cord out of the plug point, and thrown the whole thing out of the window.

'Hello?' I croak into the phone, and on the side I can hear the familiar laugh of Steve.

'C'mon sleepy head, remember you're going to help me today, I'll pick you up- I mean if you don't mind skipping school that is' Steve says into the phone and instantly I slip out of my bed.

'Oh yeah of course, what time?' I say as I look over at the clock on the wall, cautious of when Billy would show up to pick me up for school. It was currently half and hour before the designated time, so I had to hurry.

I didn't need to give Steve the address because he already knew where it was, he did come over quite alot when we were young so I'd expect him to know. But I did tell him to park around the corner, obviously so Billy wouldn't see, he'd be pissed regardless of what I'd explain to him, so it would be better to be safe than sorry.

I told him to pick me up it on ten minutes and I hurried to get dressed. Once I was finished I ripped my school bag from my desk, stuffed it with a jumper and things I'd thought I'd need, and ran downstairs.

'Mum, if Billy comes over, just tell him I already went to school, and that Jonothan picked me up at last minute' I say hurridlely as I kiss my mother goodbye on her cheek, she seems taken aback by my rushed behaviour, but has no time to question it because I rush out of the house.

I see Steve sitting in his car at the corner of the street, his door opened while he waited for me to arrive, and when I did I quickly opened the passenger door and sat down.

'Hi Steve' I say breathlessly as he stares at me with a small grin on his face.

'Hey, where you running?' Steve questions as he motions to my chest rising up and down heavily, I press a hand to my chest and nod.

'No time to explain, just drive' I sigh out and he lets out a laugh before shutting his door, starting the car and driving away. I felt extremly guilty for leaving Billy hanging this morning, and I was lying to him. Well, lying to him indirectly but I still told my mother a lie to tell to him, and I felt like shit for doing it. But I had to help Steve, and I know for a fact that Billy wouldn't let me near Steve if he knew about it.

'So, what did you have in mind?' I question as Steve drives, the music low as he hums along, his brown hair blowing slightly from the wind, and he turns to me with a shy smile as he responds.

'Well, I was thinking of going to the florists, getting her a bouquet of flowers, and maybe some extra stuff' Steve says and I nod as I take in his plan.

'Sounds good' I say and I let him drive to the florists first.

We spent atleast a good hour in there, looking at all the different types of flowers and smelt all different kinds of roses. We skimmed our hands over the flowers, until we decided that Nancy would like the red roses.

Steve ended up paying for an extra bouquet because he threw them at me, and the completely crumbled, the petals fell off and the stems were bent, and the florist lady totally gave Steve a growling for it, and I just laughed at him as we went back to his car.

'So what now?' I question and Steve hums as he thinks momentarily, he looks at the watch on his wrist and tilts his head.

'Lunch?'

I laughed loudly, shoving the fries in my mouth as Steve talks endlessly about what we used to do in our play dates, and now that he explained them in detail, I remembered all the cringey yet memorable play dates we had.

'We used to play hide and seek all of the time, it was like the go to game when we were bored' Steve says and I feel a grin spread on my face as I reminisce on the game.

'It was our go to game, and I'd always have the best hiding spots' I state in a matter of fact manor, causing Steve to scoff at my cockiness.

'Sure, that's why I always found you hiding in secret hide out bush beside the garage' Steve laughs as he sips his drink, and I go red as I remember one specific memory in that one spot. Steve and I shared our first kiss in that group of bushes that hid us well.

'Do you remember that one time you ran all the way to my house, because you found out I was really sick and no one was picking up the home phone?' I question as I remember the night that happened.

I think I was twelve, or thirteen at the time, and for some reason I had fallen really sick. I wasn't at school for two days and Steve was starting to get worried about me, so since his parents wouldn't drive him, he snuck out of his house and ran all the way to mine at 10.pm, it was sweet but his parents grounded him for two weeks after that.

'I was worried about you, and I was willing to suffer the consequences too, so I mean in a way, I was a very good friend' Steve jokes as he doesn't hid the fact that he's wearing a cocky smirk on his lips, and I nod in agreement which causes the smirk to fall from his lips.

'I shouldn't have ditched you, I was a dick back when I was fourteen, and I still am in high school, I'm sorry for leaving you behind...you were the only genuine friend I had, and I hope we can just pick up where we last took off' Steve apologizes with a genuinely sad look on his face, and I show him a reassuring smile, and I reach over to grasp his hand in mine.

'Let's pick up where we last took off' I repeat with a wide smile on my face.
