The gym was decorated with the colours of pastel pink and light blue, for some reason people voted for those to be the theme colours and we had no choice but to follow along with it and not complain. Although we all agreed it was a hideous colour when it was the back drop of our group photo.

'This is it, prom night. How does it feel?' Steve questions as we find a vacant table and sit down. I put my purse under the table so it's out of sight, and we all arrange to go over to the beverage table and get something to drink.

'It doesn't feel that different, we're just all dressed up, that's all' I say as I grab a plastic cup and start to pour me some orange juice, Steve agrees me with before grabbing a few of the small finger foods on the table and going back to our spot.

The music was fast paced, everybody was busy on the dance floor with their partners and friends, constantly moving to the music that played loud through the speakers surrounding us. But of course there were a few teachers supervising us, they occasionally whispered to each other, probably making comments about how terrible the dancing looked.

'We're dancing guys, let's go!' Leigh-Anne exclaims as she pulls Jordan out of his seat, and although the rest of us protested, we were eventually forced out of our seats by the two and made our way to the dance floor.

It got hot very fast, there were so many people surrounding us, it felt like I was suffocating, but I didn't really care because I was surrounded by my friends. Steve was busy trying to dance while Leigh and Nancy jumped around. Jordan had his hands on Leigh's hips and I could sense the two of them would probably kiss tonight.

'Billy not coming?!' Jonathan shouts over the music, and I turn to look at the doors noticing that they're still closed.

'No he's not!' I yell back over the music causing him to nod and go back to dancing with Nancy. I paused from dancing for a moment, and I began to think about what Billy is doing right now, he's probably on the road, driving out of Hawkins with his music blaring from his speakers. But I was soon pulled out of my thoughts by Nancy who grabs ahold of my hands and begins to dance with me.

Every popular song played, and fortunately I had a comfortable dress on because we were all dancing like crazy, maybe it was just the feeling of being at prom that hyped us up, we usually don't dance like this at the parties we go to. But eventually Steve and I got tired and excused ourselves from the other four.

'Jesus, I think I'm starting to sweat' Steve laughs as we collapse back into our seats and I nod in agreement.

'Same here, I think I'll take a break from the dancing for a bit' I say as I grab my cup and drink the rest of my juice.

'This is great, I mean I always thought that prom was overrated but it's actually pretty good' Steve announces as he looks around the gym. A few people sat on the bleachers on the side, they were probably the type that didn't dance.

'There's no hard feelings right, about our break up?' Steve says and I turn to him and shake my head.

'None, I mean you're my best friend, I think it's better that way' I state causing Steve to nod. It was the right thing to do and say, we both know that.

'Yeah, by the way I heard Jordan said a pretty heartfelt poem in your English class' Steve says while he wears a grin on his face.

'Yes he did and it was sweet, and who did you hear that from?' I question, I mean Jordan did have an amazing poem but I doubt people would talk about it out of class.

'Billy Hargrove and I had a little laugh about it a few days ago' Steve says, and he raises his hands as I let out a laugh in disbelief and lean back in my chair.
