Emilia

The last time I was this nervous was on the very first day of school, I was a shy little six year old, who had mixed emotions and a bad mixture of hand me downs from my cousins clad on my body, and honestly I couldn't have been more terrified. I clung onto the seat belt of the car, refusing to leave the vehicle as my parents tried to persuade me to get out.

Eventually, they managed to drag me out of the car and set me down to walk me to the building. And I remember crying my eyes out at the sight of it, I didn't want to leave my parents side, so they were forced to sit down with me until I stopped crying, which only happened when I saw Steve walk towards me.

'What's the matter Em?' He questions, and I sniffle as I shake my head.

'School' I mumble, causing him to laugh loudly before he shakes his head and points at the building.

'I've been here before, it's fun. They have a park and everything, like swings...' Steve says with a wide grin on his face, and I felt a small grin grow on mine before I nodded and took his hand, he managed to settle me into our class and meet new people, and he was right there by my side.

And right now, I was going to be by his. I was so nervous, the sweat started to bead on my forehead as Steve took in my countless warnings before opening the bus doors and cautiously stepping out of the vehicle, I felt like collapsing when he started to move to the centre of the car lot.

I knew as much as I was scared to shit, I needed to be there for Steve, just like he had been when we were little, so if it meant risking my life for him, then so be it. I just didn't want tonight to be the last night of Steve's life. So the four of us waited anxiously inside of the bus, all silently cheering on Steve as we watched him steer his way to the middle of the car lot.

He started to tease, swinging his bat while he moved around slowly, his eyes watching the deep fog infront of him intensely, he whistles and talks lowly, and before we know it, Dart, a now fully grown lizard, that was the size of a large dog, crawled out from the fog infront of him.

My breath hitched as Steve moved slowly, taking in the sight of the creature infront of him while he strategies on how he was going to take it on, but before he could even make a move, we spotted a sight I didn't want to see. Around Steve, atleast four more of those things were lurking around him, all the same size as Dart and almost as identical.

'Come back!' I exclaim and we all holler at him to run back to the bus, I watch anxiously as he fights off some of the big lizards that try to jump at him, I darted away from the window and back to the bus seat, I yanked the control stick that controlled the doors, and they pushed open quickly.

'Run Steve!' I shout as the open doors catch his attention, he quickly fights off some of the creatures surrounding him before darting to the bus doors. I felt my heart race out of my chest as he sprinted to the bus entrance, and I shoot out of my seat and he nears the vehicle. Steve jumps into the bus and just as one of the creatures tries to jump into the bus after him, he uses his bat and pushes it out of the doorway, I lean over behind and I quickly shut the doors.

Steve heaves on the ground, catching his breath while he sits up, and I reach down and press a hand on his shoulder, causing him to look up at me.

'You alright?' I sigh out and he nods quickly before hoisting himself up.

'Yeah' he says before picking up the bat and strutting down the aisle, I follow behind him and speed up when the bus starts to shake, on the side of the bus one of those creatures started to climb. I ran by the kids and shoved them behind me as more loud noises echoed from the top of the bus, Max screams as the thing from outside looked down into the bus from the opening in the ceiling, and I run over and ripped her away.

Steve takes her place and holds up his bat, ready to fend off anything that tried to get in, but before he could do anything, the creature snaps his head toward the direction away from the bus, and to our relief, it ran off.

'You've always been so brave' I heave out as we walk down the tracks, Steve stops whistling and turns to face me.

'Yeah, you were always a little kitty cat, but I guess you've evolved' Steve teases, and I scoff before I slap his shoulder.

'Says the one who always cried when we would play fight' I laugh at the many memories of Steve sobbing to his parents about our play fights gone wrong. They were fond memories, and honestly some of my favorites.

'Don't bring those ones up' Steve laughs before we finish talking and focus on the kids and our surroundings. The last thing we wanted was for one of those things, and according to Dustin, they're nick named 'demodogs' which I didn't agree on but ended up using anyway.

We all talked and devised a plan, and tried to figure out what we were going to do. But all we could do now was follow down the track we were on earlier, and try to make it back to Steve's car. I stuck close to Max while we traveled, and as the wind began to blow a little harder, I felt her hand slip into mine, and she squeezed my hand tight.

Suddenly our lights were met with other flashlights up ahead and before we could retreat from the tracks, I saw two familiar faces.

'Jonothan and Nancy?' Steve and I question as our flashlights beam over their bodies, and they flash me a confused look as their eyes scanned over the two of us with the boys and Max.

'Steve and Emilia?'
