~A/N~ Can someone from America please explain your popularity hierarchy because in England the sports teams are a bit of a joke and we don't have cheerleaders, everyone just sort of gets on with it? For us there are three different groups: The 'Populars' who aren't really popular but they labelled themselves that (this group has lots of subgroups), the 'Creatives/Pretentious Art Hoes/Mentally Ill' which is my group, and the 'Nerds/Social Rejects' but they all band together so they all still have friends. How is it in other countries?
Enjoy the chapter!

Luke (14):
If there was one word to describe how you felt about each of your older brothers, you could pick them out in a heartbeat.

With Ben, you would say 'protective'. He was the eldest, and always looked out for you like a guardian angel, willing to murder anyone who hurt the youngest in the family. You trusted him more than anyone else - he was the perfect role model for you to look up to.

As for Jack, you would say 'hilarious'. Jack was the joker, able to bring a smile to your face at even the darkest of times and you loved every second spent with him.

But when it came to Luke, the only word you could muster was 'fine'. It was an accurate representation of your relationship; the pair of you weren't close and tended to stay out of one another's way. When you were together it wasn't unbearable, but you definitely argued with him more than the other two, and found you couldn't connect in the same way.

It was all right though, never bothering you for a great portion of your life, until one day when he finally brought his friends home.

They seemed to find a ridiculous amount of joy in tormenting and insulting you, driving you to the point of insanity. By far the worst part of it all was that Luke didn't make an attempt to stop them, and instead joined in with the teasing. Honestly, the comments weren't that original and the fact that you were being bullied didn't bother you as much as it should've done - you had endured far worse at school, after all - but it was your brother.

You knew it wasn't truly him, for he left you alone most of the time unless he wanted to borrow something or call you down for dinner, but when Calum, Michael and Ashton were there it brought out the worst in him. So, being the logical person you were, you went to Ben and Jack.

"It's weird, it doesn't sound like Luke," Jack mused once you had finished your story, jumping down from where he was perched on the kitchen counter and moving to pace around the cracked porcelain tiles to help with his stream of thought. "He's got his issues, but I never pegged him as a bully."

"I don't think he is a bully," you said. "Not when he's alone. It's with his friends that the dark side comes out."

"I suppose if we go with Stevenson's theory from Jekyll and Hyde about good and bad being in everyone, it's almost like the bad side of him comes out," suggested Ben. "And instead of drinking a potion to unleash it, his friends are the trigger?"

"In less literary terms," said Jack, "his friends bring out the bad in him?"

"Exactly," Ben smiled, which quickly turned to a frown. "It's a shame, though. I wish the two of you got along so we could be a big happy family. Jack and I get on with everyone fine, but you and Luke are always so sullen and quiet with each other."

"I don't know why," you shrugged. "It's just always been like that. Maybe he was jealous because he's not the youngest any more."

"Understandable," said Jack, "since being anyone except the youngest sucks and you ripped all that away from him."

"But I've been alive for fourteen years and it's too late to fix anything," you ignored him. "So really, we just have to deal with it."

"But how do we deal with his friends?" Ben wondered. "We can't just go up to him and say 'you have to get new friends'."

"Why not?" you asked.

"Because firstly, he won't listen, and secondly, we can't live his life for him," said the eldest boy.

"Can't live who's life for him?" asked the very boy at the heart of your conversation, strolling into the kitchen and lifting himself onto the counter next to you. "Is this a family meeting? Why wasn't I invited?"

"It's not a family meeting," Jack said. "Just a nice, happy conversation. Nothing suspicious, or anything to do with you."

"I didn't say it was anything to do with me," Luke narrowed his eyes, "but now you mention it..."

He trailed off, looking around expectantly, and Ben sighed. "We were talking about how you and your friends bully Y/N."

There was a moment of silence as we all stared at Luke, then he burst into tears - the one reaction I hadn't expected. "Woah, what's wrong?"

"I don't want to," he cried, "but I have to! I can't go against them, it'll ruin everything! They'll throw me out of the group!"

"No, they won't," Ben patted him on the back as we all shuffled closer to give an infamous Hemmings group hug, which seemed to calm him down slightly. "And if they do, they aren't real friends."

"But they're all I've got," he sniffled. "If you haven't noticed, I'm not exactly popular."

"There will be other people to make friends with," Jack said. "You just have to look."

"Please," you said, and that was all it took.

The next day, Luke brought his friends home and had a go at them, which surprisingly worked. The boys apologised profusely and even brought you a consolation pizza, and for the rest of your days you weren't a punch bag for their words, but an asset in song-writing and almost a friend.
