Luke (21):
I woke up in Japan
Feeling low, feeling lonely
The best I ever had
It was more than half empty

Your head hammered as you lifted yourself up from the tangled sheets, Luke still snoring soundly next to you.

"Again?" you winced at the sudden throbbing in your head and waves of nausea crashing over you. "What was I thinking?"

You had expected that your brief time visiting Japan as a post-high school celebration would be wild, but nothing like this. It had only been a weekend, and you had already met a boy, got drunk too many times and made love even more.

And while you knew this was just a holiday fling, you couldn't help feeling some force of magnetic attraction between you and Luke, pulling you back to him. He was the best you'd ever had, no one made you feel like jelly the way he did. But he was leaving today, and you had to get back to your friends, so it was best to run off without a goodbye.

Besides, what were the two of you expecting? A happily ever after? You were both going to leave Japan, back to your own homes (or in Luke's case, onto the next city) and never see each other again. This wasn't a romance. It was a couple of hook-ups, no attraction except for physical.

But there had been talking, too. In between the drunken dancing and passionate kisses you had found out more about Luke's life, and opened up your walls so he could see yours. That wasn't normal for some hook-ups, was it?

Luke rolled over and stirred slightly, making you swear under your breath. You needed to stop dwelling and dawdling, otherwise he would wake up and leaving would become almost impossible. It was better for him to wake up alone, low and lonely, but it wouldn't take long for him to forget you completely and move on to the next girl in the next place.

***
It was more than just a neon weekend
Light slipping through the third floor curtain
Spreading love like the morning news from the day before

A ray of light on Luke's face dragged him out of his slumber, and he reached out contentedly to find only empty sheets and a slight indent of where you should've been.

So where were you?

Luke wasn't without any idea. This wasn't uncommon for a one night stand, he just didn't expect it from you - throughout the weekend you had always been by his side, why were you running away now without a goodbye?

He didn't understand the pain of leaving, how hard you would've struggled to break the attachment formed over one short weekend - he felt it too, but he didn't have the choice to stay.

A knock at the door caused him to jolt his head up, a smile spreading across his face - it must be you, maybe you had gone to get breakfast or something...

But when he opened the door to Calum's tousled hair and cheeky grin, his face fell.

"Wow, I don't think I've ever seen someone so unhappy to see me," Calum joked. "What's up?"

"Nothing, just... she's gone," Luke blurted out, choking back irrational tears he knew would be stupid to spill. "Without a word."

Calum sighed. "What did you expect? We're leaving today, and whatever you two have been doing would have to stop anyway. I thought she was just a one night stand?"

"A three night stand," Luke mumbled, "and she was the best I ever had."

"All right, a fling. Speaking of, you got a noise complaint from room 304 down the hall because you were having sex too loudly."

Calum smirked, but his friend didn't reciprocate the action.

"Come on man, you'll find someone else."

"Never as good as her."

"Stop it," he scoffed, "you're being ridiculous. Now come on, our flight's soon."

And Luke followed without a word, but he couldn't shake the image of a beautiful girl in a neon-lit hotel room with sparkling eyes and a sunshine smile.
